Today is Wednesday and alarm was set for 6.15am but we woke up early anyway. We were on track to do the online check out from Paris Hotel to save some extra time and we were out the front of the Hotel by 7.00am as planned to get a Taxi. The weather was a bit different this morning as a thunderstorm has arrived with a bit of rain and lots of lightning (not ideal for flying on a plane).

So after spending a short time in Los Angeles, in March 2019, I flew from LA to Osaka with Japan Airlines. As I had decided to try and do self guided hikes, so again booked with World Expeditions for a Kumano Kodo, Coast to Coast Self Guided trip. It was for 10 days and included luggage transfer and most meals.
Having landed in Osaka, I had booked a hotel in Wakayame so I had easy access to the s Read on...
My partner and I recently got back from a trip to Eagle, Colorado. We were visiting some old buddies of ours who moved from Vail to Eagle due to the rising cost of living in the Vail Valley. While I had been to Eagle a few times in the past, the last time was quite a few years back. At the time I was still a big Vail snob (and much more ignorant being younger), and Eagle didnt impress me much.

Read on...
The Memphis BBQ Food Scene is very much a large part of The River City. A BBQ joint is seemingly on every corner and fills every nook and cranny of Memphis. Although larger cities probably have more BBQ places, Memphis certainly has the largest rib joint to per capita percentage in the nation. With just under one million residents in Memphis and surrounding suburbs, that is a bold statement, just Read on...
Spittal Pond Nature Reserve covers 64 acres of wetlands along the South Shore, with winding walking trails. The first trail was cut through Spittal Pond in 1966 but it wasnt until 1986 that Spittal Pond became a protected nature reserve under the National Park act.

Leaving Auckland, we headed a couple of hours south to Matamata. Nearby, on what used to be a 506 hectare (1250 acre) sheep farm, Sir Peter Jackson found what he felt was the perfect site to locate his set for The Shire. In particular, a large tree matched a tree described in Tolkiens works. He built the set using temporary materials for the Lord of the Rings trilogy. By agreement with the landown Read on...
The thunder woke me up last night at some point but I didnt hear any rain until the next time I awoke at 4:15 but even that wasnt much. I put the awning out to cover my cooking table and half the bike. Breakfast was PB on toast and yogurt with raspberries and nuts. Quick, easy and minimal to back and eggs. I cleaned the previous days dust off the bike and was off.
I decided Id try the road I stum Read on...
No need to be up with the lark on Saturday as we are staying local, ready for a late afternoon treat - or at least when we woke we thought our booking was for late afternoon.
Hostel kitchen facilities for our travelling breakfast and then out, just 3km up the road, to what looked like an interesting little local museum celebrating the life of a notable Icelandic author. Cute outside wall to the b Read on...
