First attraction there, is Hopewell Cape, a place where you can witness these tides, and the beautiful effect of erosion. Some of the structures are called flower pots because of a few trees on top of very high slim rock pillars. This is a must in in the region and is really impressive. You need to check the tides schedule before to make sure to be able to walk on the beach. But do stay as well as Read on...
Butte du Lion - Lions Mound on the battlefield of Waterloo. Installed in 1826 and inscribed XVIII JUNI MDCCCXV - 18 June 1815, the date of the battle. The mound is 141 ft. (43 m) in height. About 1/4 M. to the right rises the Mound of the Belgian Lion, 200 ft. in height, thrown up on the spot where the Prince of Orange was wounded in the battle. The lion was cast by Cockerill of Lige, with the met Read on...
The last time I was in Sheffield in a travel blogging sense, it was an ode to Heaven 17. The Other Half was reliving her youth and we were at the O2 to see Glen Gregory et al, blasting out the the full Luxury Gap album. Temptation indeed. She was on a roll, after doing the Penthouse & Pavement tour 2 years previously. It seems only fair then that the title of this blog goes to their musical neighb Read on...
At the top of Mt Stuart there is a cluster towers and a lookout providing a very good view of the city. The 9km road in and up is steep, narrow and very windy, but sealed all the way. Once at the top we were afforded a simply stunning panorama of Townsville, the mountains and out to sea. We knew it to be a large city, but we were amazed at just how large it actually is. It was a little hazy as we Read on...
I hired Khun Thorh (Khun literally means person and it is prefix in Thailand; Thorh is his given nickname and it is the closest transliteration I can make of his name) to bring me to and from the historical park in this samlor (pedicab powered by a motorbike) on both days. We fell into silence after I exhausted his English vocabulary and he exhausted my Thai.
Thailand was one of the easiest spe Read on...
Padstow or because Rick Stein is so ubiquitous and omnipresent here it is referred to as Padstein! I have enjoyed his pasty significantly more than I thought I would. His recipe stated he uses swede but Im pretty sure it was parsnip with meat pieces. The meat is cut not minced and it was pleasantly peppered so I thought the pasty was very good. Pasties are everywhere here, there are 3 consecutive Read on...
It has been a difficult year and a half for everyone. One of the things we missed in 2020 was our annual road trip. This year, we are spending a lot of time with our daughter and her family. So this trip is rather disjointed. It will not be our usual week marathon, as in the past. But I plan to document as much of it as may be of interest to any of my dedicated readers.
We begin this trip with h Read on...
Today into port on Bornholm, Denmark. Bornholm is an island that is closer to Sweden, Germany and Poland that it is to Denmark, but its part of Denmark???? Our ship docks outside of Ronne, the main city of the island. Now you can tell this is not a normal place for the ships but since they dropped St Petersburg, Finland and Tallin, they added some extra stops. Look at the pictures where I ship doc Read on...
As we traveled throughout Georgia, we made a point to try as many local wines as we could. We would be at a restaurant, the waiter would ask what we wanted to drink and we would ask if they could a bottle of winea bottle of Georgian wine. This lasted only a short time as we quickly realized, the only wine you could find in Georgia was Georgian wine.

Recht bald gibt Read on...
