On the road about we headed west to Longreach. It was not too far and would take about four or so hours. It was a crisp, sunny morning and the travelling was easy, with not too many cars on the road.We made good time, with the scenery unchanging and we saw very few animals, apart from birds feasting on road kill. Our first anticipated destination was Barcaldine. This contains the famous Tree of K Read on...
For the first time in living memory we slept through the night with the curtains open as there was absolutely no in through our picture window. And oddly enough we both had a long and restful sleep better than we had had in a long time, waking only as light came up in the sky around 7am.
The clear blue sky of yesterday had moved on and now overhead was grey, ominous looking clouds. The forecast w Read on...
I think I gave you all enough time in between blogs not to bore you too much. 😊 Since my blog of Sept. 12th, I can say this work & pleasure trip to the fab Riviera Maya, Mexico, has had a little bit of everything mixed in. Kind of like a tasty jambalaya; a food that satisfies the soul. That is what this trip felt like for us. Being away from our second home for so long due to Covid made it all Read on...
Rosslyn reminded me of the Scrovegni Chapel in Italy . Take no photographs . It takes away the pleasure of others . The chapel is too small and you will cause a gridlock as you stand and take a photograph. The reality - buy a guidebook or a postcard. Sounds like a good ploy to make money doesnt it ?
The car park was large and Gabby was not taking up too much of it . There was plenty of room for v Read on...
On 27 Jan 2020 stories out of Wuhan, China about a new virus that had locked down the city. We have friends Tom and Wendy; Wendy was the first Consul General after the U.S. opened the Consulate in Wuhan following its closure during the Communist revolution in 1949. I read that the U.S. government was evacuating the U.S. consulate staff so wrote to them I bet you are happy not to be in Wuhan now! I Read on...
We were slow to rise the next morning, our muscles being sore from the previous days marathon hike through Carnarvon Gorge. We had two more side trails to explore in the gorge, but we had little idea of what to expect. We had been told that the Amphitheatre and Moss Garden were special places, however, that is an understatement. Both side trails were a good way into the gorge, and we ended up walk Read on...
After spending an uneventful weekend in Townsville following my Whitsundays sailing trip - during which most of my time was spent catching up on all the action I had missed from the Euro 2020 football championships - I took a coach five hours north to the backpacker mecca of Cairns, where two of the best years of my life were spent in days gone by. My timing couldnt have been better, as the very Read on...

We left Atapuerca a little after 6am, with quite a few others. After about an hour, we thought we saw Burgos way off in the valley. Shortly after that, we came upon Villaval, but it was just a tiny town with a few houses, and no cafes or bars. About a half an hour after that, we entered Cardenuela Pico, and I remembered the bus advertisement on the outskirts of town. It was for an albergue and caf Read on...
