Well it was certainly a rollercoaster to get here!! First of all we booked a trip to IceIand 22nd – 29th June , but then the hospital phoned up and I was going to have a replacement knee on 23rd June, so the trip was cancelled. After being in the hospital on the 16th June as a standby patient, having various tests etc I was eventually declined because of a graze on my knee! The surgeon wasnt kee Read on...
I stayed in a rv park that was a kid resort. They had swimming pools, splash pads, miniature golf, huge playground, bouncy castle, bumper boats and several different styles of bikes to rent. My niece Jess brought her 2 kids, Abby almost 3 and Shea almost 1 to play and the kids had a ball in the pool.
We had hikes, and lots of play time over the couple of days that I was there including a softball Read on...
Today does not start well. After waiting for an hour for a sandwich at the hotel restaurant yesterday, we opt to have breakfast elsewhere. The old man has spotted a place in the village which does a buffet breakfast. Hes very disappointed when he discovers its not self service. And theres no return visits. Im happy with my plate of pancakes, pineapple and plantain.
When I planned our trip I had h Read on...
In June we spent a weekend hiking and camping next to a small lake named Trehrningen just outside Huddinge. This is a place that generally only locals visit.
When we looked through our photos from last summer we noticed that we had some that were interesting enough to publish but that didnt fit well in any of the other blog entries. These random leftovers we have now put together in this blog ent Read on...
Our first and biggest piece of advice the GR11 and to still be smiling at the end is to: REST! We know not everyone has the luxury of time, but if you can, take days off the walking / walk shorter days. If you consider these extra days when planning, it also gives you some buffer time for things to go wrong, from injury&sickness to trail section closures and storms.
Youll need time for general tr Read on...
I actually slept until nine this morning. Not straight through but I kept falling back to sleep. Its been about eight a.m. most days that I didnt intentionally get up early to move on to the next destination. Yoghurt with raspberries and nuts and then a bacon sandwich chaser got the day going. I finally remembered to put the one gallon gas can in my saddlebag just in case. I also carry a five gall Read on...
Day 579 - As I walked I wondered if this would ever end . Covid that is . It was a miserable day. The sky was steely . The clouds so thick they obscured everything apart from one sliver of silver where the sun was trying its best to shine through. A real silver lining in a sea of grey. I could not hear any birdsong . They were keeping out of the wet and the cold . The butterflies had long gone and Read on...
Take a small step towards a goal . This week has been that sort of a week - small steps. England have started to remove all restrictions. Life is slowly returning to normal. Wales will follow albeit slower. Perhaps by the end of the month we will see the end of Covid passes . Another month will be needed before we ditch masks.
So what small step did we take today? It was a cold day . Far colder t Read on...
Mauii is one of the most beautiful places I have visited so far. We stayed at the Banana Bungalow Hostel for 5 days. One of the perks staying here was that they offered free tours with different activities.
One of the days we joined a tour that was supposed to take us up the Haleakala, one of the biggest crater volcanos, that is now dormant. The plan was to hike through the crater, which would ha Read on...
I had a remarkably good final nights sleep at the Rangoon YMCA, given that I was assigned the table for the night. We spent the morning sending the last of our Burma postcards and visiting the markets. I missed out on sending a birthday telegram to Dad – they wanted 25 Kyat for that pleasure, which was over budget. Sorry, Dad! We had some minor hassles getting to the airport, but at least when Read on...
