Sometimes we stumble upon real gems in the middle of nowhere. Hjortron och Troll (Cloudberries and Trolls) is one such place. In short, we can say that it is an art gallery. That gives you an idea of what it is. This place is created and run by a man named Kenneth Nielsen. When he retired he realised that he had a lot of time on his hands and plenty of space in his garden around his home. He deci Read on...
Arrived here in Queenstown after a longer than expected drive from Franz Josef; only because I hadnt looked at the map too carefully and should have realised it wasnt quite as straightforward as I though it might be. But what a drive - through beautiful podocarp forest towering over the road for kilometre after kilometre. Spectacular. Wed walked up to the viewing place for the Franz Josef Glacier Read on...
It started with finding out that my battery had not charged entirely during the night. My USA battery charger cable requires an adapter to connect to the European electrical outlets. Apparently, the adapter had slid out of the outlet during the night and had stopped the battery from charging. A major issue, but not fatal. We had to stop more frequently to make sure I did not run out of battery. A Read on...
We have been carrying eggs with us for the last two weeks, so we finally had bacon and egg muffins for breakfast this morning before heading off to the HMAS Whyalla for the 11.30am tour. We actually arrived about 10.30am so had plenty of time to visit the museum beforehand. Our tour gave us access all areas despite a warning when booking yesterday that some areas would not be accessible due to mai Read on...
This morning we arranged for Cholna to collect us from the hotel at 8.30am so that we could start ticking off the the last of the temples on Steves list of 12 Temples. First we went back to Angkor Thom to view Baphuon Temple. With it being part of the Angkor were not sure how we missed it on Tuesday? It sits between Bayon and Phimeanakis, but I guess we missed it because we couldnt see it through Read on...
England finally decided to end the 3.5 months strict lockdown due to coronavirus and I jumped at the idea of travel. I even went to eat fish and chips in a nice, local restaurant so that I could refresh my table manners 😊 My friend at texted a horrible weather forecast of wind and rain weather. Dressed for the worst of weathers in my easily dryable trousers and wind cheater (both Chinese made Read on...
We return each day from our adventures thirsty and hot and dusty. And we may look like a chicken when we return, as we are eating chicken so often. We cook breakfast here at the studio, make chicken salads to eat out for lunches, and then eat chicken back here – although yesterday we ate outside next to a lovely little lake. This part if Texas is flat and very arable. We saw dozens of tractors Read on...
Leaving Lewisburg, we had around 20 miles on the highway before we reached our route. We passed quite a few Mennonites or Amish kids either walking, cycling, or horse & carting probably on their way to school. One cart had about 5 kids in it and looked like it was driven by a teenage girl. We saw a woman pedalling for all she was worth up a slight hill. I guess you could say their religious belief Read on...
A trip closer to home today and an early start. Anthony was our guide and at 8am the London streets around Westminster were busy with people going to work by bus, cycle or walking. We are all familiar with seeing Big Ben shrouded in what Anthony called its ‘Metal Jacket and now we also have the Houses of Parliament under a massive refurbishment. The refurbishment due to cost £4bn & estimated t Read on...
