Well, the next occasion to celebrate was Bobs birthday on Oct 25th. As we just got back from our wonderful trip to Cappadocia, I was feeling bad that it wouldnt be too exciting. Thankfully, as Bob keeps telling me – when we do these trips around our birthdays, they are for both of us! The one thing we did know that would make the day special was getting to reconnect with Darren and Sue. Darren, Read on...
With road trips ramping up once again, we set out to visit Julia and Frank once again in Athens, Ohio. We hadnt been to see them since February 2020 just before the world fell apart. We planned to take a measured trip this time. No driving straight through from Northern Virginia to Athens (or Logan, rather). Instead we would break the outward trip with an overnight in Morgantown, West Virginia. A Read on...
Another decent morning weatherwise. Our loop was through Chatburn to Sawley, Bolton by Bowland and round the radio mast and home via Sawley and Chatburn. Our virtual journey would be leaving Pierrelatte, still on the ViaRhona, and staying close to the River Rhone. Soon after leaving Pierrelatte we pass through Bollene. We stayed here in 2009 in a hotel on the edge of town. We walked into town in Read on...
I may be slightly biased because thats the island we called home for 13 months, but I think Kyushu is my favourite of Japans main islands. It doesnt have the globally famous sights that from around the world to visit. There is no town as rich in temples, shrines and palaces as Kyoto, there is no mountain as as Fuji, and there is no city as big, as modern and as vibrant as Tokyo. However, the few Read on...

Off exploring today in Smart Arse. Lots of the roads round here are so narrow that a car as small as ours is just perfect and we have noticed there are quite a lot equally small and often Smart too. We headed for the Needles which is West and went as close to the coast as the roads allowed. First stop Compton Bay where the high chalk cliffs are crumbling away and we wondered how soon the car park Read on...
This will again be a short entry, not much to blog about when your looking at apartments most of the day. It will be so short, I am actually typing this directly into the blog. My normal pattern is to type the entry in Word, so I can spell check and get my formatting the way I want it. This is the first time since I started blogging in Thailand that I have done it in this free hand way. The day b Read on...
Today we headed up the mountain by cable car again. This time from the cable car right next to the campsite. Such a delight to wake up in such a lovely spot, halfway up a mountain and to be woken to the gentle sound of the cable car passing over the motorhome on its way up and down the mountain. Handily there is a small supermarket just down the track to the campsite so I nipped down first for so Read on...
I had been wanting to visit Qufu for a while as it is only a couple of hours or so by High Speed Rail from Beijing. The train journey was uneventful and the smog outside got progressively worse the further we got from the capital. I alighted at Qufu East Station and headed over to the bus station next door as that is where both the long distance buses and the local city buses depart from. I think Read on...
