Well, the next occasion to celebrate was Bobs birthday on Oct 25th. As we just got back from our wonderful trip to Cappadocia, I was feeling bad that it wouldnt be too exciting. Thankfully, as Bob keeps telling me – when we do these trips around our birthdays, they are for both of us! The one thing we did know that would make the day special was getting to reconnect with Darren and Sue. Darren, we got to know years ago (approx. 40 years ago!) when we all lived in Botswana. We were so excited to hear from him before we finalized our trip to Cappadocia so we could coordinate our dates to be sure to be here in Marmaris when he and Sue would be able to visit. Unknown to me, Darren has been following our blog for a number of years and thankfully this time I had worked hard to keep the blog up to date preparing for what I knew would be a hard one to do on Cappadocia. It really paid off as found that Darren and Sue have been touring around in their van for a few months and luckily, they were going to be close to Marmaris on Bobs birthday. It was truly wonderful to reconnect after all these years and find out what he has been doing since we last saw him as well as meet Sue. Got a chance to visit some (never enough time) and have dinner together at the marina restaurant. To think he was still a kid then and now he is retired and enjoying the ability to travel around which allowed him to reconnect with us. Hopefully it wouldnt be as long before we can connect again! It really is wonderful when you meet up with people that you knew in the past and it is so easy to reconnect! Fortunately, that has happened to us a number of times – definitely friendships that last! There has definitely been a change in the weather recently with quite a few days of rain, but luckily there havent been strong winds associated with it. We have been treated to a few light shows with the lightening, but with the number of masts around here that are taller than us, we werent worried! result, Bob took over of being nurse to me by doing the cooking and just letting me rest as much as I can. Thursday is the big market day here in Marmaris, so I told Bob to go on by himself as I still wasnt at all up to par. He asked for my list of things to get (and did say that there is a good possibility that he would bring back more than we need). Yes, for some reason when we are at the market, Bob seems to forgot the size of our refrigeration, storage and how many meals we will be making before the next market day. With that in mind, he went off so will see when he gets back how he does! I wanted to go back to sleep right away so neither of us had breakfast before he left. Bob definitely enjoys eating breakfast out so I wasnt worried at all about him not having something. Later when I woke up, I didnt feel like much but got myself something to eat. I had made contact with Bob to see if he found a good place for breakfast in town and he said he found a new favorite place and it is close to the bus stop! I got quite a bit of sleep and didnt even hear back onboard but saw that he got everything on the list and then some! I was amazed at what he carried home as he really out did himself with a whole watermelon (he did ask for the smallest one!), all the fruits and vegetables for the week, picked up a few things needed at the grocery store and on top of that brought back a nice pot full of daisies! He really outdid himself on this trip. I told him that he still had the job of finding room for it all in the refrigerator. He wasnt sure if that was really fair as he had carried it all back, but knowing that I was sick, he was a good sport. He managed with everything except the watermelon. We will be sure to cut it up and share with others at the marina. Unfortunately, as I was starting to feel better, Bob came down sick.
