Today we headed up the mountain by cable car again. This time from the cable car right next to the campsite.
Such a delight to wake up in such a lovely spot, halfway up a mountain and to be woken to the gentle sound of the cable car passing over the motorhome on its way up and down the mountain. Handily there is a small supermarket just down the track to the campsite so I nipped down first for some fresh bread rolls and croissants. Always a lovely way to start the day.
Then off to the cable car and up, up and away. The cable car is called the Panorama and that is what it is. It doesnt connect to any other ski lifts or other mountain transport and slightly sadly there are no refreshment facilities up there. We had been hoping to have lunch. There is though a small lake and lovely viewpoint across the mountains.
We then set off along one of the tracks leading down but quickly discovered that this section of mountain,in summer, is for activity, hiking and biking. The track down can take several routes which are obviously walkers delights and if
we had followed them we would have ended up down at the bottom of the mountain and then been able to follow the road back down to the campsite but.. it was a long way and we dont do long walks any more.
Nor can either of us do uphill and especially in the much thinner air of 2000 metres up. Having set of down the slope we soon realised that the incline was getting steeper and steeper which is fine going down but was going to be a problem going back up again. As we both take blood thinners and blood pressure tablets walking uphill is too challenging to be any sort of pleasure. So we turned round before we got too far down the track and returned to ground level in the cable car.
The cable car station has a restaurant attached so we had lunch there and then set off up the road in Smart Arse to Lenzerheide, the next biggest town up the road. Checked out the shops along the main road and stopped for a coffee and found some delicious looking (it was 😊 ) apple strudel gateau in an irresistible bakers.
Then back along the road where there was a handy parking spot for a small car lie Smart Arse, just across the road from Heidsee, a rather pretty lake.
We walked half way round as it is split in the middle and found it far easier walking than up that track on the mountain earlier. Sadly more our style nowadays but we do have to make sure we still have working legs and feet at the end of each day so we can begin the next !
We have decided to stay in this delightful spot until the weekend so we can do the train journey we have booked for Friday and honestly it is such a super place up here in the green mountains that cant think of any reason to move on earlier.
