Very pleased with this campsite and especially our pitch as, as it gets hotter, the shade provided by a couple of big tall trees is keeping us Forecast for the next few days is to get hotter and even hotter until we probably Hopefully a storm along before that happens ?. Decided for first time to use campsite showers rather than the excellent ones in the van mainly because there is no grey waste emptying grid on the campsite And the water supply is a little far to want to carry too much water to fill the tank. As it happens the showers are super so good decision. No idea why there is no grey waste or motorhome service point. Campsite is so well set up it seems an odd omission. Trip out for the day was to La Rochelle. Visited it a couple of times before. First time by boat when we were staying on Il dOleron in 2007 and second time we went there by train from Chataillon Plage in 2016. This will be our first visit on 4 wheels. found a massive underground carpark. Easy. Walk into the harbour is via the arcaded streets. there are a lot of street beggars everywhere, usually aged in their twenties with dogs and beer cans, something we didnt notice on our last visit. Really quite in your face at times. So much hotter than last time we visited in June 2016 when my blog says we were so cold we bought coffee to warm us up and we were wearing fleeces against the chill. Today was a suntop and shorts sort of day. La Rochelle is a great place. Bits of harbour in several locations and of course the two iconic towers which span the access to the port from the sea. Had a lovely stroll around, down past the Chain Tower and back along a back street where we found an inviting creperie just waiting for our order. Our favourite French lunch. Galettes. So many eating places and so many filled with hungry people we were lucky to find a table in one a little quieter and the galettes were as good as we remembered. . Icecream a must on the way back to the car and then back to the campsite. Best way to cool off when its hot is always a dip in the pool and the pool is super inviting so we did. Did have some rather startling news from home. Our neighbour who checks things for us had noticed that the two pool fountains had stopped working. He checked our electric and found we were tripped. OOPS. Contents of freezer turned to mush and thrown in bin. In better news he very kindly attacked the fountains, worked out which had tripped and got the other one working. That will be a relief for the fish especially as there is at last some sunshine due in Staffordshire.
