After a good nights sleep I was ready for breakfast. The hotel we were staying in didnt provide breakfast, but had a deal with the adjacent pub, so we headed there. I was rather surprised at how busy the pub was as most of the tables were taken. We were shown to a table and given menus to peruse. I opted for the Eggs Royale. It didnt take long for our drinks to turn up, but we waited about 50 minu Read on...
Yes, only a few times, fortunately. The first, was of course, in my hometown of Kingsburg, twenty miles south of Fresno. Nobody in town would cut our hair, until we reached junior high. My Dad became friends with a great Slavic fellow through the Lions Club. He offered to cut my hair, my brothers, and my Dads. There were always a few punks and bullies in junior high and high school, most of whom a Read on...

We had done with the display of fashion and it was time now to move on to the fairy tale castle that was Egeskov Slot. Picture the scene if you will . A moat with a beautifully manicured lawn running down to it . Waterlilies growing in the water . A gatehouse . Mellow red brick. Pointed arched windows . Somewhere where the young medieval lady would stand. Her hair flowing down . She would be waiti Read on...
A glorious blue sky greeted us this morning. Not sure how long this lovely weather can hold out as there are reports of quite a lot of rain about but will make the most of what we have. Got on our way a little earlier as the triathlon cyclists were clearing the road outside the campsite by 10am. We headed for the Langemer lake just up the road and found a handy parking spot so we could wander to Read on...

We arrived in Vancouver before 11:00, two flights in advance of the departure of the ship, as advised by the travel agent to avoid problems if WestJet cancelled or delayed our flight. No problems. The taxi took us through downtown Vancouver to Canada Place, which is where the cruise ships dock. (I asked about the new Central Library, and caught a glimpse of it. More anon.) The cruise ship area w Read on...
Thursday October 13– Another lazy start to the day. Slept until 7:30 and then did a little organizing and who knows what else in the morning. Where does the time go? At one point I heard my Airbnb host leave the apartment next door (cleaning, I think), so I opened up and asked him for a new garbage bag. Mine was not full, but it did have a rotting orange that was stinking up the place every time Read on...
Huy took us out in a kayak to discover a cocopalm (water coconut) forest. The weather was perfect for a very relaxing trip although of course we were sitting at home while Huy was doing all the paddling. We saw the large water coconut fruits and learnt how these palms are so important for the eco system in the area. Starting near the river mouth we then went through a small narrow gate to get in Read on...
Sunday morning we enjoyed some wonderful sunshine on our backs and throughout the day temperatures reached 21o – bliss! A lot of vans left this morning, but by 11 oclock the next lot had started to roll in; it appears to be a constant moving feast during the peak season. We drove back into town to do a little bit of sightseeing. First stop was to look at a mural on the Bourke Water Tower of Gun Read on...
