Amsterdam has a vast array of water canals over 100km in length, around 60 miles. These 165 canals divide the city into a series of small islands connected by over 1200 bridges, with the in 1648; the Torensluis. The majority of canals can be accessed by private boats, group tours, or rental boats with many moored on the canal edges next to houseboats. The citys bridges were built to withstand hors Read on...
Yesterday, we were planning to do another ride share, to get from Seville to Albufeira, Portugal but the only one offered at a time we wanted had a 1 star review. Only 1 review, and it was from 6 years that the car didnt have a/c and that the driver was 40 min late. We decided to give him a try anyway, reasoning that 1 bad review isnt necessarily accurate.

I dont know much about it, apart from the distinctive exterior so am unsure what to expect, but the start is good. I didnt know about Puppy the giant flower sculpture outside the entrance, but it is different and I like it. Inside the museum it is a relief from the heat which we see reach 44C today. We have tickets in the afternoon that avoids the worst of it. but it is still hot walking around.

The real Oktoberfest in Munich starts Saturday (Sep. 17)!!! I really do not have the time to my travel steps, at this point in my life. But this is one event that would be fun. From 2010:
I see there are some places in the United States that celebrate the Oktoberfest, much like they do in Munich each year. Of special note is the 200th anniversary of the Oktoberfest this year (2010). It began on Read on...
There is another European Riviera in Croatia starting about an hour south of Split and centered around Makarska. I stopped there not to schmooze but to tackle the second highest peak in Croatia, Sveti Jure, at 1752m located in Biokovo National Park. And the vertical gain was almost the entire height of the massif since I would be starting only a bit above sea level so it was going to be a bit toug Read on...
Regardless of the other great wine regions, like Lodi, Central Coast, and Temecula, Californias famous Napa Valley remains number one in my heart. Why is that true? In 1968, the Napa County Board of Supervisors passed a landmark zoning ordinance that made Napa Valley the first Agricultural Preserve in the United States. The Ag Preserve, as it is known, mandated agriculture as the highest and best Read on...
The border between Pakistan and Afghanistan proved our biggest hassle to date. The Afghani customs men were most unenthusiastic about the whole task and in no hurry. Clocks were switched back another 30 minutes, giving us a bit of extra time, but we didnt finally emerge from Customs until 4.30pm local time, meaning a 3 hour delay. Plenty of money changers were on hand, and lots of guns were also f Read on...
On our full day in Johannesburg, we embarked in a tour mostly consistent of apartheid significant sights.
It was nice not to have one of those ultra early wake up calls, partly because we needed a little extra time to maneuver around our hotel rooms quirkiness. It was one of those hotels with the bathroom sink and glass shower in the bedroom. They did provide a partial curtain divider, but it was Read on...
I like my beer, and I like a good pub. By far my favourite in Ho Chi Minh City is the Winking Seal at 50 Đặng Thị Nhu in District 1.
I am not sure how I discovered this pub because its hidden away in a side street that I would never normally traverse. Anyway, I found it, was delighted and go there frequently.
A good pub must have decent beer, a pleasant ambience, good service and fair pric Read on...
