I know, when to blogging, Im only around two months late for the moment. But slowly we are getting there. After 5 weeks in Europe, and 5 other weeks in Russia, we board the direct plane from St Petersburg to Dubai. Ive been fortunate enough to visit the Expo 1992 in Seville as well as multiple stops in 2010 for the Expo in Shanghai. These were so fun to visit that I couldnt not bring Tanya to Dub Read on...
Our guide Gagat was a delightful gentleman as we entered the Temple Compound he explained in great detail the history of the temple and was able to get up close to exam the details of the structures & the stone relief work. Due to the narrow and small interiors these were currently roped off as it would be impossible to social distance inside. Prambanan is the biggest Hindu temple in Indonesia a Read on...
Some 120 paces S.E. of the Blesi is the Strokkur (‘butter tub), an intermittent fountain 1912. DSC_1116 The Golden Circle is the popular name for a tour of Icelands most popular tourist destinations: Gullfoss waterfall, Geysir hot springs and Thingvellir National Park. (Baedeker in 1910 didnt call them that, but did list them as the top places to visit in Iceland!) They can all be visited in a Read on...
The alarm had been set for 7am. We took the box with all our clothes to the post office when it opened at 8am. Friends had told us a courier would be cheaper but after the frustration of last night we just went with the US postal service. AND it turned out to be about $50 cheaper. Back to the hotel for a big breakfast and then check out. Got a Lyft down to the car rental place and it was packed. Read on...
Over 17 miles today saw the trek through the Lake District - and hopefully the monster climbs are now all done. Baptism of fire this morning after a nice breakfast. Crossed a very lovely unassuming bridge and through a gate and into the realm of climb hell. Over 3 hours going up to a peak of 780m - but climbing more than 1,000m with the slight down relief - and covering only 5 miles. Legs burnin Read on...
Our plan for today is to take it a little bit easier. Were starting to wind down towards the end of our trip and its time to relax a little. Not too much, mind you! So, today we head south, to the beach at Hua Hin. After breakfast (which was served to our room) we headed out towards the Khao Ngu Stone Park. It looks very impressive in the pictures, and it was pretty, but we both felt the pictures Read on...
This was the second year of the corona virus pandemic and again our summer vacation options excluded travels abroad. (Although to be truthful, we took advantage of a temporary window of opportunity in June to visit our daughter in England after 16 months apart.) As we did last year we are enjoying more places in our own wonderful country - see our 2020 blog about the Kfar Blum area. Here we were Read on...
We woke up to the doorbell, breakfast is served! Fried egg, toast, margarine, bacon and sausage. Shortly afterwards we got the all clear from our PCR test. Were free! Except its Saturday. Banks are closed, so we got some cash from an ATM (at an exorbitant charge) and headed towards the famous Kaosan Road. On the way we saw the city waking up, food stalls opening, lots of flower sellers making and Read on...
