Sunday: Mostly a quiet day spent relaxing but had a nice walk around a nature preserve and along a marsh. Tried to sneak into the sea island resort by walking which worked except I would have had to walk another 2 miles for anything good. So I guess its not really an issue leaving the pedestrian gate unlocked 😊 Monday: MLK day meant a day trip down to St. Augustine with my sister and her wife. Read on...
We spent today in Naracoorte and have now seen all of the attractions featured on their brown tourist sign! We started the day at the World Heritage Listed Naracoorte Caves. With time to fill before our tour booked for 10.15am the above ground loop above the Alexandra, Blanche and Bat Caves. There are a number of above ground openings to the caves which means that even people who do not want to go Read on...
We ubered out to Flushing Meadows which was a whole experience in itself. The driver was an expert in cutting off trucks and buses to push in the traffic. It was heart attack material. We got to see Andy Murray win his match, watched Simona Halep get beaten by a qualifier and Madison Keys win her match. It was a long hot day again and we mostly managed to stay out of the sun. We got around to a Read on...
I just got back from a weekend of Gorilla Trekking on the border of Uganda, Rwanda, and the Congo. It was a solid 10+ hour drive from Entebbe, without any flat tires, so I opted to take a bush plane instead. The plane left at 7:30am on Friday and it was just a short 1.25 hour flight. The landscape is very different here and much cooler. We were about 2000 meters above sea level in the mountains wh Read on...
We have sailed as near to the North Pole as we shall ever get ie. 80 degrees North and this morning sailed alongside the sea ice in choppy seas.. We have stopped at various places in Svalbard and have seen lots of birds and finally 2 Polar Bears. Could only see the bears through binoculars from the ship but at least we saw them. We have seen evidence of previous in the 16th century. Nothing of cou Read on...
Today we set off to explore the Snaefells Peninsular, starting with the first point of interest which is clearly visible from our campsite, the Kirkufell Mountain. The waterfall is also supposed to be of interest though it looks a bit pathetic to us as we pass by. We do not stop as Ian has spotted the evil pay cameras - at least they are not on the public highway today! We arrive in Olafsvik, the Read on...
Short day today - only around 10 miles, which should mean less than 4 hours walking. Easy, right? Wrong.. Woke up to rain and mist which had settled over the Lion Inn. No rush in starting though, so we gave it some time to clear with a later breakfast and some extra time. Off we set at just before 10.30 with the mist still lurking, but with winds that would clear it given a bit of time. Road wa Read on...
It makes sense to mention the first camping trip we made as a family first on April 4th to celebrate Nathans 7th birthday weekend. This first camping experience was much different than the one we were about to take because we slept in tents at Sycamore Canyon instead of an RV. It was a perfect was to start Nathans birthday with sprinkle pancakes and presents in the morning before school. Susie an Read on...
This morning weve booked a half day tour to the Cuevas de San Jose which are about forty kilometres north of Valencia. Our guide introduces himself as Joaquin, and one of the first things he tells us is that we shouldnt drink the water out of the taps here. He doesnt explain why. Weve been here for five days now, and weve been drinking tap water constantly. We both feel fine for now, so we assume Read on...
