Awoke to find the weather unchanged at around 11 degrees and still very windy. We checked out of the Newport Bay Club & Hotel around 10am but not before Kerry did some research looking for a diner for breakfast / brunch on the route to Boston. She settled on the Pandolphis Mattapoisett Diner and we arrived at 11am. Its one of the older classic diners with the shiny silver tram style design with t Read on...
Today we continued around the ‘toe of the Yorke Peninsula and then started up the west coast. Our first stop was at Point Annie where we drove straight down towards what we thought was the viewpoint rather than taking the left turn and then driving around to the official parking area. We managed it OK in the but Cathy and Steve decided against it in their Subaru. They probably wouldnt have had Read on...
We were awoken at 5:30 this morning by an elephant shaking the tree right in front of our tent - what a cool way to wake up! We lounged in bed for a bit, then later enjoyed breakfast (we both had a very nice breakfast plate with fried potatoes, mushrooms, and two small very light pancakes - quite thin, and very tasty) along with fresh fruit. Susan had sausage and bacon with hers. We packed up and Read on...
From the South side of Blanding, Utah (US Hwy 191), I turned West on Utah Hwy 95. I drove about 15 miles to Comb Ridge (a geologic monocline) but did not have the time to explore it on this trip. About 25 miles West of Comb Ridge I turned NW on Utah Hwy 275 towards Natural Bridges National Monument. After about a mile I turned North on San Yuan County road 228 going up to the Bears Ears pass where Read on...
Having learnt from past experience, this morning we did a hike with two cars so that we only had to walk one way! We met up with Cathy and Steve at Halletts Cove and left their car in the car park. Bernie then drove the four of us up to Marino Rocks so that we could walk the Hallett Cove Boardwalk (Marion Coastal Trail) back to Halletts Cove. Hmmn, a boardwalk sounds like some lovely gentle exerc Read on...
Pennsylvania boasts its own Grand Canyon along Pine Creek. You can get the best view from Colton Point State Park. The morning ride north from Cedar Run is the last long forest run. I was up early. The wood was quiet and cool. I lost on this section last year. This time I was right on target, and nailed the park first time. Being alone at the view point made it that much better. The viewpoint for Read on...
It was a very, very early start as we were on an 8.45am flight (could be worse) and we do like to allow loads of time to get to airports. In fact we were way too early and we had loads of time to spare - thankfully there were none of the environmental mob blocking the roads, which is happening a lot at the moment. We were relieved to as it meant that we all the new, COVID related bureaucracy cor Read on...
On Friday night I set my alarm for 6am to make sure I wasnt late for my 7am booking. Awake in the morning and ready with plenty of time to spare, I headed out to the airstrip for my scenic flight. There was a minimum of 2 people on the flights, so I had booked onto a flight that already had someone booked in. However, when I got there the other person (or people) never showed, so I was left with t Read on...
The bus journey to the hotel took about an hour to an hour and a half. Im glad that there was only eight of us on the bus as it meant we got to spread out. The driver was in full hazmat gear and roped off from us. It was weird leaving the airport and driving along the empty roads. Traffic must have really dropped off now there are so few international flights and I presume domestic flights still a Read on...
