Bob did suggest we could stay at the Merry campsite for another day but I was aware of the day of the week, Friday, and that the Mesnil campsite was likely to be busy at the weekend because it is by a lake so undoubtedly gets a lot of weekend visitors. Also no pool at the Merry site and Ive swum every day except first couple on the Somme before the weather warmed up and at Merry.
Easy to drive off from Merry as the car was still fastened onto the trailer. Not quite as easy as expected though as the road to the campsite is narrow and the campsite has a shop which must also be the village shop as it is very well stocked. A full sized refrigerated truck arrived, drove onto and round the campsite to turn round and took half an hour to unload during which time it blocked the entrance and exit of the campsite. No worries, only quite a short drive to do.
picturesque villages and through countryside filled with fields of golden crops and some vineyards. Not as many vineyards as expected as we were in Burgundy country but on the edge of it. Wondered if I had made a mistake choosing this campsite as it is not in the region Bob had planned with vineyards and several towns to visit but by a lake which is great for watersports and walking but we dont really do either of those.
Arrived at the campsite at 12.45 and found ourselves in a queue to book in as reception closed until 1pm. I booked for 4 nights, maybe 5 and we were given pitch 61, probably the biggest pitch we have ever had. Excellent when we have a trailer and car to park as well as the motorhome.
Settled in and a swim was a necessity in the really good pool. I suggested this site as my blog from 2016 when we stayed before said the pitches were big, the sanitaires excellent and the pool great too. And so they were.
After dinner a walk across the road to the lake. This has been more developed since we were here before
and there is a childrens water play area out in the water, bouncy castle style. Will give that a miss but the pedaloes looked a bit tempting.
A check of the map showed we were not in a good area for visiting towns and villages which is what we like to do. Troyes we have visited before but there is really nowhere else within an hours drive. May not stay for the full 4/5 days and also the weather forecast is showing lots of in in the next day or so. Feeling guilty as Bobs plan for the first two weeks+ was so good and I may have messed it up by changing the planned route for the last week but even so I cant help the weather.
