Today is the day I planned specifically for Ed and Terrywe were headed to Cooperstownthe Baseball Hall of Fame. Anyone who knows anything about St Marys, knows the Wilsons were all about baseball. Their dad, Truman. Was their coach. There mother sat in the stands and cheered on 5 boys and continued on thru their coaching careers, as long as she was able. Going to Cooperstown was a dream of theirs.
My son, Corey, is all about baseball and has been a Atlanta Braves fan since our neighbor, Zeke Hubbard, sat a Braves cap on his head when he was five years old. Several years ago Corey and Jennifer visited Cooperstown for the baseball Hall of Fame induction. Bobby Cox (longtime Braves manager) and several Braves players were taken on to the Hall of Fame and he wanted to be here as a spectator. So they were able to give us some tourist tips.
We started out with breakfast at the DoubleDay Cafe. I had a yummy omelet while Terry had Belgium waffles and Karen and Ed had French toast. Everything was delicious, but the New York maple syrup was outstanding!!
the street from the Hall of Fame, so by the time breakfast was over, the Hall of Fame was open. While there was no line, theres were quite a few people inside, most of them wearing a jersey, shirt, or something special from their favorite baseball team or player. You could hear discussion around each room if the best baseball game, the best team, the best player, records set, records broken.you just had to be quiet and listen.
We took many pictures, looked at all the memorabilia, and watched a brief movie about baseball, but to walking into the Hall of Fame. It was impressive to see all the plaques sorted by years and read the accolades. Im so glad we visited.
Cooperstown is a neat town with lots of shops. We went in and out of shops. We bought some souvenirs, talked to several people, and bought some goodies in a bakery. We then drive the short distance to the Fly Creek Cider Mill. We ate lunch thereI had ice cream! They had animals to feed, antique tractors, a pond, cider tasting..really just about everything you could imagine!
toward Warrensburgh, NY to a house on the River Schroon. This was supposed to be a great fishing place. Sadly, unlike us at home, they havent had any rain, so the streams were extremely low. The River House was great. It was secluded, well maintained with great outdoor space. We all agreed we could spend a lot of time here!!!
Dinner was easy.we warmed up all the leftovers from the past couple nights. It was quite an array of dishes!! We glued ourselves to the tv for the evening as we watched the news of Queen Elizabeths death. Then off to bed. Nite all!
