The cruise is to celebrate Mark and my 70th birthdays. We were born in the same hospital in Oakland 14 days apart. We choose this cruise because it started the day before Marks bday out of Fort Lauderdale. Brad, Christie , Laura and Christopher joined us on the cruise. Our ship is the Equinox, we have cruised on it before. We like Celebrity Cruise line because their food is so good. The employees all seem happy and helpful. We also like the solarium pool which is indoors and is for adults only. The cruise includes tips, wifi and unlimited drinks. We all upgraded the drink package so we could have top shelf drinks. Each cruise day has lots of activities but we mostly drink, read and lay around the pool. We also enjoy the shows at night after dinner. Our favorite show was the Broadway Cabaret. There are many bars on the ship and most have live music at night. The activities for the day are put in your room the night before. We prefer the sit down dinners because we sit at the same table and have the same waiters who get to know what you like to drink and
eat .Our waiter would dishes each night. One night I ordered chicken instead of the dish he When I tasted my chicken and saw that everyone else ordered the dish I was disappointed. Before I could even tell Mark I was disappointed in my order our waiter brought me a plate of his dish. He must be a mind reader. I also enjoyed the sing along to Aba songs, the words to the songs were projected onto a large screen and we belted out the songs. I also enjoyed the silent disco.. You wear headphones on and choose a channel to dance to. There are four channels so everyone is not dancing to the same music. It was a lot of fun.
San Juan, Puerto Rico - we have been here multiple times. In the past we have spent a week scuba diving, another trip we spent a lot of time in the day on the beach and evenings in Old Town, There is a rain forest worth a visit. We found a local restaurant for dinner and it was very authentic and good.
US Virgin Island - we have also spent multiple trips in St Thomas. St Thomas has good scuba diving which we spent a week with Jerry and Lisa Cvecko diving one year. The shops near the cruise dock are only open on cruise ship days. We took a share taxi ride to Meagans Bay. It costs $5 entrance fee and $10 each for the taxi. It is a beautiful bay for swimming and snorkeling on the right side of the bay near the rocks. We saw lots of fish a four turtles. There are restrooms, food sales, beach chair and umbrella rentals as well as kayak and paddle board rentals. We had lunch in town at the Green Parrot. Good cheap food and drink. We had planned on scuba diving in St Thomas but Marks neck was killing him so we cancelled. It turns out the scuba diving boat broke down and the trip was cancelled so we did not miss it after all.
The island is 34 square miles and is French on one side and Dutch on the other side. We landed on the Dutch side. The Concordia Agreement of 1648 states the
residents of either side of the island can active on either side without red tape or border difficulties. This agreement of peaceful coexistence is the oldest active undisputed treaty on the planet. The blue water is beautiful here. Since this is the Caribbean most of the activities are water based or zip line activities. The kids went snorkeling but Mark neck was in no condition to snor or be on a boat so we headed into town and did some shopping.
Tortola is the largest of the British Virgin Islands. It has beaches on the northern coast, sailing, surfing, scuba and windsurfing. The kids took a boat snorkeling tour. Marks neck has been killing him so we cancelled out of the snorkeling tour. Christopher, Brad, Laura and Christie bought us a session with the ships acupuncturist. He worked on my back and Marks neck. It helped Mark so he signed up for three more sessions.
