Same sort of story as usual, lots of photos (Julie takes them as her camera has better resolution) and a bit of blog in an attempt to explain whats happening. We are back in day 2 time, so we are walking from Combe Martin to through Due to a very tight BnB market our arranges a return taxi for us so after slogging our way over 23 km with an elevation gain of about 850 m we were driven straight back again. Out of Combe Martin the path unsurprisingly goes up and up and along and down and up and along in the usual manner. The path meanders through a plethora of holiday parks, holiday camps and even some holiday ‘paddocks with some pretty primitive facilities but all seemed busy. It is school holiday time and this region is popular and busy. The distance and elevation is quite similar to the first day so yes it was another tough day. The trek up the hills to Bull Point and Morte Point is tough but is was made a bit easier as we feed and watered a bit at the Lee Bay pub. into sight and the end is visible it certainly motivates and the walk into the busy seaside town was quite straight forward. Back in Combe Martin is was Carnival Week. No particular reason, or none we could find out about so we pretended it was for us. The streets were blocked off, there were floats, a parade, plenty of costumes and even more bag wigs and some fireworks to finish. The pub was abuzz but drinks were sold in plastic cups which meant the first few mouthfuls were inevitably spilt! Even the plates and cutlery were paper and pretend. The crowd was pretty tame but the night was still young as we meandered back to bed. Up for breakfast, packed and ready for the taxi to take us back to where we finished yesterday. All done by 20 past 9. Shoes off and a 3.3 km paddle along Beach. Lovely on the feet. But the end of the Beach meant up hill and along the cliffs for another 5 km or so until the next Beach. The walk is pleasant and not too demanding but the vistas remain spectacular. Hundreds of cars packed around Croyde Bay and Staunton Sands and bogey boards and long boards abound here. Heaps of swimmers were in the water, many in rock pools and the atmosphere here is quite ‘summertime. Cafes seem to spring up in fields and by the roadside and there have been no shortage of possible snack sites. Tired feet meant we cut a little off the walk but our was at least 1km fro our path and almost that distance from pub, shop or restaurant. The place is but Easily managed some haddock and chips (no, no mushy peas) with a flavoured cider before heading back for some blog time.
