Weve taken the trains and the tube a LOT over the past five days, so I thought this quote was appropriate 😀. We take another train early tomorrow morning, from Eastbourne to Gatwick Airport, for our flight to Dubrovnik. We are so excited about going to Croatia!
But first, weve had a pleasant last two days in Eastbourne. Yesterday we had a relaxing day, walking into town with Carol Ann, and doing a bit of shopping. I didnt bring jeans with me, but its been a bit cool so I thought I wouldnt mind a pair, so I bought a pair of very reasonably priced dark skinny jeans at Primark. Then we enjoyed a fish and chip lunch at Qualisea. We both had haddock and chips, and tried a beer from Long Man Brewery called Long Blonde, which was very nice.
We went to an Agatha Christie play in the evening called The Mirror Crackd at the Devonshire Park Theatre, a very nice old theatre, built in 1884. We had a really good time at the theatre and enjoyed the show a lot. We had
a gin and tonic before the play started, then at the interval (what they call the intermission here), Carol Ann bought us all an ice cream. Its a tradition at the theatre here. It was those little cups of ice cream, with the wooden stick for a spoon 😀. I havent had one of those little cups of ice cream for years, and it was a perfect little treat for the interval. We took a taxi back to Carol Anns after the play, and enjoyed another gin and tonic with a few crisps, before heading to bed.
We had a light breakfast this morning, then left at 10am for the Eastbourne train station to catch the train to London Victoria, for a lunch with several of Susans cousins. I got a delicious flat white coffee at the Eastbourne train station, and we were off on the 1 1/2 hour journey. When we got to Victoria station we took the tube to Ealing Broadway, and walked to the restaurant (a nice French restaurant called Cte). We had a lovely lunch and it was great for Susan to see more of her cousins who she so rarely sees. I had a
delicious tuna Nicoise salad by a few glasses of Sauvignon Blanc, followed by a noisette (an espresso with just a teeny bit of milk - I remember having this in Paris).
When we got back to Carol Anns this evening we did some laundry, and packed up our bags. Our train to Gatwick leaves at 5:20 am tomorrow, so we will have a very early morning (Carol Ann very kindly offered to drive us to the train station, saving us the early morning 20 minute walk in the dark).
