In this blog i will go into detail about the 14 days i spent in the US. During those 14 days i spent 8 of them in San Diego, 5 days in Las Vegas and 1 day in Los Angeles.
The first blog will be about my favourite US City to date. I love San Diego and I felt like the 8 days I spent in San Diego wasnt enough for what I wanted to do. I made some fantastic memories there and met family I havent seen in years when i stayed with them for the duration of my stay!
I arrived in San Diego in the late evening after a pretty standard British Airways 777 Business Class flight, BA really need to step up their game when to their Business and First class products. Nonetheless I was in a city I visited 11 years before when I was only 6. A city that I have heard so much about, remembered very little and wanted to explore. The drive up to Poway, about 40 minutes from the airport to my uncles house was a really nice way to introduce the surrounding area at night. I arrived at my uncles at around 22:00 local time and spent the remaining time that night relaxing and taking in the beautiful Black Mountain.
The remaining 7 days or so we spent walking around the beautiful San Diego harbour. I fully taking the harbour cruise, this gives you stunning views of Coronado Bridge, the city itself, the airport and many other sights! It was definitely a great way to start my experience in this fantastic city. A few days later I experienced Balboa Park for the first time. My uncle this place and he was spot on. A beautifully tranquil park located in the centre of the city. It houses many of San Diegos attractions, including a great golf course, San Diego Botanical Gardens, San Diego Art Museum and the phenomenal San Diego Zoo, arguably the best zoo in the world.
Thought the 8 days I spent in San Diego I visited many great places. Another very notable place was Point Loma, a fantastic point that gives you breathtaking views of San Diego and Coronado. It was definitely worth the drive up there. Once we had finished taking in the views we headed back down to the harbour and went on the USS Medway tour. If you love learning about the military, naval warfare and history then this is definitely the place to visit. The best moment on this tour was speaking to a veteran who was on the Medway from day 1. He spoke about his experiences and what it was like. It was a very great listen.
As time was beginning to run out we decided to head down to the zoo, I was really looking forward to it! Ive heard so many good reviews about it. We got to the zoo as early as possible to make a day out of it. The zoo was reasonably priced when I went in 2017. I spent all day walking through many exhibits, one exhibit that still brings back many great memories for me even today (2020) was the bird exhibit. In here you can walk in and interact with the birds. You could feed them, hold them and just feel really close to nature. Overall, this zoo was phenomenal and Ill definitely visit again when I go back to San Diego.
After the 8 days in the beautiful San Diego ended we made our way up to Las Vegas, a 4 hour drive through the Mojave Desert. Thats in the next blog.
The scenery gets a 4 as it was beautiful. The views of the entire city from point loma and the harbour cruise gives it a firm 4. To achieve a 5 it wouldve have to been perfect in every way, its hard to explain but it should make you speechless!
The people in San Diego, from what I have seen, are absolutely amazing. They are kind, friendly and very helpful. opposite to the American stereotype. Even on the harbour cruise a random American went up to me and apologised for being American and hugged me haha, thats why they get a 5!
The food was good again. The main food memories was sitting at Poseidon Restaurant at Del Mar.
