The day started early, first alarm when off at 6 the second at 6:30. But we were both awake before then, not because we couldnt sleep, as the bed was just because we thought it was much later when we did wake. Also, once Tarragon senses any chance you might be a wake, it all about him and needing to be paid attention to. Not that he did not spend most of the night stretched out between us at the end of the king (Tarragon) sized bed. First order of business was a shower then making some coffee. Since we are at a Homewood Suites, they all have mini kitchens so you have pretty much everything you need at your fingertips. After showers and coffee, and much petting of Tarragon we went down to breakfast. During normal times, this would mean a breakfast buffet, but now you walk down the line and tell them what you would like. A little more civilized and certainly more sanitary than grubby little hands all over everything. It was the standard scrambled eggs, potatoes, and breakfast meat (todays selection sausage). It was fine for a free meal, but the eggs needed salt (yes Christina I said something needed salt) but the potatoes more than made up for the lack of salt on the eggs. The other option was a brown bag breakfast (olden day brown paper lunch bag, with fruit, bagel, and breakfast bar). We enjoyed a relaxing breakfast, with maybe one other couple and NO children. I am not really going to blog about looking at apartments that would be pretty boring, but I will give a couple of highlights. 1) for the price you get twice as much as NYC, 2) the Avalon, which was the second place we viewed, was the clear winner of the day, the outdoor space, grilling stations and lap pool, not to mention its proximity to the pool, 3) the last place we visited also had some very nice features including some with balconys. It was in a and still had several kinks to work out. In between looking at apartments we did do quite a bit of walking and just looking at the city. We had lunch at the Capital grill, which turns out to be the actual first Capital Grill established. As it would turn out, lunch would be the best meal of the day. Jerry had a cobb salad with a grilled tenderloin on top. I had a very nice lobster salad, basically a lot of perfectly cooked lobster on top of avocados, with orange slices, that and the three glasses of Sauvignon Blanc made for quite a nice lunch. When to dinner, I really cant even waste the energy to write about it. We were looking forward to Pot au Feu, a very traditional French bistro. They were only doing curbside pickup, but we gave it a whirl. Turns out it was a whirl that should not have been taken. The food just wasnt good and had a strange after taste. It was so bad, not even going to mention what it was because we just couldnt eat much of it and are now fearful we may actually get sick. Last thing I have to say, is if you cant do it right, please just dont even try.
