Out of bed at 6:15am, bike packed from the night before. I need to get to Southern Cross Station for the 8:25am train to Seymour. I ride to Southern Cross and find my way to the platform with rediculous easy, its 7:45am and Im wondering why I got up so early. The V/Line service is excellent. A place to tie up the bike and seat for me, much better than riding all the way to Seymour. I get off the train at Tallarook at 9:53am. The plan is to ride the Rail Trail to Trawool, and Ill meet in the opposite direction at 11am. The Rail Trail is slightly undulating but well shaded from the sun. The trail is well groomed and the Goulbourn River is always within a 100m on my right. Every now and then across the orchestral madness of cicadas screaming and just as quickly, it is gone. We met as planned at the Trawool Estate and then back tracked on the trail a bit and stopped at a cafe - Its a gallery in the old Trawool school that opened in 1855 and ran until it closed in 1959. A lovely old couple opened up the store just for us to get a drink. A lovely selection of Kirkland (Costco) drinks. They have been running the place since 1993. We took the old Hume Highway out of Seymore and made our way to Northwood Road. This would take us most of the way to Nagambie. This is Thoroughbred country. Goldophin properties and others line both sides of the road. Beautiful paddocks, some even with horses, line both sides. Wonder if we passed the next Cup winner - or maybe one from years past. Its a glorious day for riding and we have the wind at our backs. No hurry, just riding along. short detour into the Mitchellton Winery, with its weird Witches Hat structure that houses a restaurant and viewing level. We didnt stay long and were more interested in the eTourer Bikes they had set up on the lawn, although were not sure why. 10ks more and we make it to Nagambie right on 4pm. What a wonderful days riding, glad to be back on the road again. Jeff has plans for how we might modify the ride over the next few days (Jeff always has plans for how we might modify the ride). I guess well decide where were going tomorrow, over dinner tonight - what a great way tour!
