We were up early to get to the snorkeling boat by 9:30. Lots of people on this boat – like 50 – and it was all snorkelers. A bit like the party boats in Aruba – with less beer. The crew was very nice. We went to Alligator Reef with Sundance near Robbies on Upper Matecumbe Key. Visibility was excellent. Depths were At that depth one cant see the tiny fish and recognize them, but there was enough. The sea was an amazing turquoise and very calm.
One of the funniest things - soon after we got in the water, we saw a stick. David dove down to get it, and found it was attached to a camera!!! We shouted our find back to the captain, who said - oh, that belongs to the diving man - he leaves them in place here and there. Hence the photo of the diver. If we can get the video uploaded, youll see it there too.
When we got back we saw all sorts of tarpons and a dozen nurse sharks lingering under the docks. Lots of pelicans too. Evidently regular feeding goes on. We had a lovely lunch of crusty grouper sandwich and hogfish sandwich.
Finally a chance to nap – which we needed! We had been offered a free sunset cruise by a couple on the snorkeling event we met, but we turned it down and hope they found takers. David did just fine today. No seasickness, no ginger needed.
We just wrapped up our dinner of the second half of the hogfish purchased earlier, broccoli and coleslaw. What would we do if we hated fish? Cant imagine it!
Early night, as we are out for an 8 am snorkel boat at Looe Key Reef again. Hoping the visibility is better. It was very good in September.
