My time in BC to an end. I just finished loading up the bike which means just about everything else is stowed and ready to roll in the morning. Thats one nice advantage of a pull through site, I can drop the ramp and load the bike without pulling onto the road like most spots although I may have mentioned my site in Cranbrook was deep enough to unload on the grass behind the trailer.
I got up shortly after eight again and had a banana and a bacon sandwich. I cooked the whole pound this time so I have some I can microwave on a travel day.
When I passed through Sicamous on my ride about noon the smoke was so heavy it was difficult to see exactly where on the hillside it from but by the time I returned it was clear the fire had climbed the hill considerably since yesterday. I took a slightly different route to get there but I basically followed the same roads as yesterday again. They are great roads and because of the local fire the Highway is closed which removes an option
of road to take South. I could have gone further West but there isnt really an option other than Highway 1. Same to the East and Ill be going back that way in the morning. On my adventure I went a little further South today to the town of Armstrong where I got a few litres of gas to make sure Id get back to fill up close the camp as well as an ice cream. I tried to be good and just had a kiddie cone. I even tossed part of the cone to keep the sugar intake a little lower. As I pushed the bars left and right following Salmon River Road for the third day in a row I was again disappointed how the smoke made what could have been nice pictures nonexistent but that is only secondary to the ride.
I stopped at the grocery store in Sicamous one last time in the hopes they had gotten more Diet Pepsi Lime. I got the last case on the shelf earlier in the week but there was none today. I havent seen it at home since shortly after the pandemic hit over a year ago. I
was there anyway so I gathered a few more groceries to start the return trip home tomorrow. I toppled up the tank on the bike and made the short trip to camp where I spotted the Ontarians I met a few days earlier sitting by the pool. After unloading the groceries from the bike I walked over to the pool to say hi and they said they saw me on the road while they were returning from Salmon Arm with their groceries. They are also leaving here tomorrow but going about an hour West.
Before I cooked dinner I hooked up the Jeep and prepped the inside of the trailer for the bike and then after, I finished dismantling things outside which brings me back to the end of my time in British Columbia.
