On the 5thday of our trip, Dennis took us to Bremerhaven. Our first stop was the Emigration and Immigration Museum. It turns out Bremerhaven is where many Europeans emigrated out of Europe and many arrived in the US via Ellis Island. There are records there from the 1600s through the late 1900s. When we bought our tickets, you were assigned a person to follow. My person was a lady named Margret and she was born in the 1820s. She didnt emigrate to the US until she was in her late 20s. There were stations all through the museum where you could find out more information about her. We each had a different person. The museum had exhibits that depicted the different time periods and all the people would have had to endure on their trip. I could have survived in the late 1800s on when there were steam ships but before that wow.
After the museum, we got a snack of nuts and met Denniss friend Hollar (I think his first name was Mark or Mike but he said to call him Hollar). He took us on a tour of the huge port at Bremerhaven. In 2010 it
was the largest port in the world and today it is still huge and oh my the number of cars it exports is crazy (100s of thousands). Bremerhaven also used to have a huge US military presence 10K people. Now its just 10.
As we were heading back to Dorfmark, we stopped at a fishing village. It was a very relaxing place where we made a few silly pictures.
After we got back to Denniss place and got the kids to bed, the 3 of us went out to a local restaurant in Soltau. We just had a glass of wine or beer.
