Our last day, so sad. We got up early so that we could do the 3 hour drive to Dortmund. Dennis had bought us tickets to the soccer game. Dortmund is supposed to be the 2ndbest team in Germany and tickets are typically impossible by BUT, with Covid and the requirement of a vaccine passport to enter, tickets were available.
We got to Dortmund way before the game so we ventured into town to visit their Christmas market. It was similar to the one in Bremen that we visited the other day.
We then headed to the game so that we could find parking. It still was a challenge to find a place to park. We got close to one lot and then they closed it so we had to find another one and get back in a long line. After parking we headed towards the stadium. There were tons of people and of course, Susan and I had to stop and buy some paraphernalia. We both got scarfs with the teams colors.
view of the field. The crowds at these games are really into it, constant singing, flag waving,. It was fun. The game was scoreless at half time. Dortmund scored first in the 2nd half and the crowd went wild, then about 10 minutes later Stuttgart scored. Close to the end of the game Dortmund scored again and was the final score. That as the first soccer game I had ever been to and I really enjoyed it.
Unfortunately we had to fly back home on Sunday and we finally had some blue sky on the way to the airport. 24 hours after waking up, we made it to the hotel in Raleigh to crash. What a wonderful trip and what a wonderful family Dennis has created.
Forgot to say in the blog for day 5, we got our covid test for our return trip. It was sure easier than in France. It was a drive through and they gave us the results in about 15 minutes. It was also free.
Dennis and Vinni, thank you SO much for you hospitality and give both Emil and Ida June hugs from Susan and I.
