Ive got a little behind with my blog but here it is at last, only 8 days later. Trying to catch up with myself now that we are home again !
Got ourselves out and about at a reasonable time and for once used the campsite showers. Well we did use them once on the last site but mine was cold so weve showered in the van every other time. The shower block here though is excellent and heated too. That is pretty important as though the sky is reasonably clear there is a rather vicious cold wind which means sitting outside is not an option and neither are cold showers.
We arranged a taxi at reception which took us to the carhire place in Roses. Taxi was double the price of any we used for the same length of trip in Valencia. We have a Fiat 500 again but this time an automatic. Bob was pretty pleased about that as we drove the windy, corkscrew in places road up and over the Roses peninsula to Cadaques. We have visited before, 20th September 2016. On that day I mentioned in my blog that it was grey at first but
then the sky turned blue when the sun came out. The weather is not being as kind this time but it is of course only early March and at least it didnt rain today.
What it did do was blow an icy strong wind. Cadaques is such a pretty seaside town with white buildings encircling the very protected harbour but goodness that wind was strong and we took shelter down the picturesque side streets several times in preference to walking along the blustery seafront. We stopped for coffee and I was going to sit out the front by the water but quickly changed my mind and retreated inside.
I was looking for the restaurant where we had a lovely lunch in 2016. I had a photo showing we had eaten tempura prawns and I found a restaurant in the right location with them on the menu. Sure enough on going inside we found ourselves in the same place and the prawns were lovely again today too.
Back at the carpark, all automated ticketing, not had to resort to phone parking yet we set off in the car again heading for Llanca. Where Cadaques is at the end
of the little Roses Peninsula, Llanca is right over the other side and in fact getting very close to France. We found that French is as widely spoken here as Spanish so I used a mix of both, not always intentionally ! Even more windy, narrow roads and that the car is so small he has no view of either the front or back to see where they are on the tight bends. The automatic part was handy though. We stopped at Port Lligat for a view of the many boats in the harbour. A similar town to Cadaques but nothing like as picture perfect, then further along until we got to Llanca where we had more photo oportunities. Very much a seaside resort and sure it must be heaving with tourists at the weekend even out of season. Not today though in the icy wind of midweek March. Though the sun did occasionally pop out and give glimpses of blue sky, the sky over the mountain was pretty black most of the day.
We took the main road back to the campsite instead of the tortuous one over the mountain and tucked ourselves in with the
heating on against the chill. We really neednt have brough the outsite table and chairs as mainly too wet to use them in Valencia and just plain too chilly now we are futher North. More rain is forecast but just hoping they have got the forecast wrong. We were so lucky with the weather until we got to Valencia. There we had expected something pretty warm and summery but unusually we have been unlucky with that.
