Today we visited Bergerac. We have stopped off here for an hour when driving past in the motorhome some years ago but never explored properly so a must for a day out today.
Stifling hot from the moment we got up and in fact temperature went to at least 42 degrees at one point which is over 100 F. A pleasant drive, 45 minutes or so and once in town we followed signs to a carpark. Delighted to find outselves under cover and pretty close to the historical old centre.
Then we explored first of all near the cathedral where there was a market, always lovely for a stroll round. Instead of bunting the norm now in this area seems to be big plastic decorations, brightly coloured, butterflies, flowers. It looks absolutely delightful strung along in the air above the walkways. I love bunting but this is even nicer.
Lots of lovely alley ways to explore with some pretty buildings and flowers. Main problem was trying to keep out of the sun as it really was so very hot.
gives us a problem.. are we going to go savoury galette or sugary crepe. Bob solved the problem. We ordered one of each and both to share. Madame was happy with our choice though it meant she had double the washing up for the same price and we were extremely happy with our shared lunch.
More strolling down the pretty streets until we came to the river but that was in 100% full sun and pretty impossible to even walk along. We decided to head back to the carpark but had to take a route back through the town as the straight way there was along the unshaded river. We noted there was no traffic on the river which normally pretty sure would have plenty of boat rides.
The car was lovely and cool in the carpark and after we had cooled ourselves down with water we set off back the way we We stopped at Lalande which I had noticed as pretty on the way there and had an iced drink in the village square, a quick look at the waters of the mighty Dordogne and then back to the campsite.
back that I simply put my head under the campsite cold tap until my temperature had dropped from boiling to something bearable. Even so I had to have a quick cold shower before I could function.
A swim in the lovely pool was a necessity. Love this campsite. Spacious, lovely atmosphere, a bar which is open all day and until late evening, shop, fresh bread and croissant. Only slight downside as far as I am concerned is that it has a lot of English campers which means everyone is speaking English and when Im in France I prefer to speak French as much as possible.
Tomorrow promises to be a few degrees cooler though still way up in the 30s but a storm is due at some point tomorrow night.
