Life is filled with unanswered questions, but it is the courage to seek those answers that continues to give meaning to life. You can spend your life wallowing in despair, wondering why you were the one who was led towards the road strewn with pain, or you can be grateful that you are strong enough to survive it. – J.D.Stroube

We set sail for Volcanoes National Park today, and it was a bright and sunny day. We went due south of along route 11, passing by our favorite snorkeling area Two Step, stopping at a few buying some Kona Coffee (all beans are picked by hand, hence the price) from Mirandas, a Christian family business. We stopped at a black sand beach – evidently with very rounded lava, and saw our first 2 nene Read on...
First landed in Dublin, we hired a car and drove towards Galway, where we stayed at a Bed & Breakfast. From there, we took the Connemara loop and rode amongst fields and lakes, stopping at Cong and at the Kylemore Abbey (avoid visiting, it isnt worth it). The landscapes were totally breathtaking with bogs and black sheeps everywhere. We were quite lucky with the weather and didnt get much rain dur Read on...
This morning the camp host came to visit us, he brought Nate a few Yooperlite rocks, Nate vowed not to take credit for them. The host was so funny and kind, he was like you can go ahead and take credit. Truly this was so thoughtful and nice of this host and I know Nate really appreciated being able to take a few Yooperlite rocks home. We drove to Marquette today and are staying at Marquette Touris Read on...
I suppose today is as good a time as any to write my first post about my first trip in the time of Covid. I went to the nations capital, which so many terrorists have occupied at this writing. I hadnt intended to put off writing this post so long; but since I did, a lot of it will necessarily be a reflection of my time there through the lens of whats happened since that time (especially today, Jan Read on...
Our day started with a visit to the Spanish Lagoon to visit the burrowing owl – both of them this time! We noticed that one of them at least has been banded.
David also got much better photos of the Ruby Topaz humming bird, but still not up to his usual snuff, so no doubt well be back again! There were MANY of these humming birds in the bushy walking area there, whizzing by in 2s and 4s. Make s Read on...
Mom and I were leveling up our morning routine by taking our breakfast to the outside patio. We would now eat while listening to the waves and breathing in the Atlantic air. The harsh New York winter was melting away from our memories with every absorbed ray of sunshine. Our St. Augustine itinerary for the day was Castillo de San Marcos, historic downtown, and finally a ride out to the mythic Foun Read on...
cheese and biscuits came in handy on the ferry from Algeciras to Ceuta. We were expected to buy lunch, but I didnt want to go down into the hole on that little bucketing ferry. I preferred the blasting wind on top, and picked my way through most of the cheese and half of the plain cookies. Later when I went down to avoid missing an opportunity, I was glad to only have twenty minutes remaining. It Read on...
Well before retirement, Natalie and I began talking about downsizing from our home of 30 years into an RV, leaving Washington, and traveling until we find a place to make our new home. One of the best ideas we heard about the idea was to try RV living before investing in an RV because many people get the RV first, then decide they really dont like the idea, and that can be an expensive mistake.
