Leaving a city like Barcelona is not the easiest thing to do. Sure, its fairly from a logistical point of view, but from a travelers point of view, it is more challenging. Barcelona is a fabulous place that provided a marvelous time for us. It is no small wonder why people rave about it. But...it was time to move on. Wed been on the road for over 40 days and seen great places, great friends and e Read on...
There are signs all over Okinawa warning you about the highly venomous habu (a type of pit viper). The akamata is much bigger and actually eats habu.
I imagined Okinawa to be a tropical paradise. I was quite shocked in to land to see that much of the island appeared to be urban. Turns out the southern portion of the island is largely one big conurbation. The few patches of green within it are gen Read on...
This is probably my longest blog post but wow! What a week! Not sure how I feel about Kentucky now haha.
Sunday: Early morning to Mammoth Caves national park which is about 30 miles away. Beautiful weather on the surface- high of 70* and sunny. The backstreets reveal some hidden treasures of buildings. Luckily Luxembourg didnt get dismantled too much in WW2.

Entering Farina this trip was so different to last time. Last time it was a buzzing place with people everywhere, The Underground Bakery was operating and the volunteer rebuilding program was in full swing for its annual winter program. What do any of us really know about the Mob here in Chicago? Yes, I watched Robert Stack (as Eliot Ness) in The Untouchables in the 60s, and it scared the cr*p out of me. Many stories exist, some true, some not. Yet, I think we all have a fascination about their fame and notorious crimes. The most famous mobster was none other than Al Capone. And his influence reached California, Florida, and Neva Read on...
On Sunday morning I was sad to leave Arequipa behind, although I was looking forward to our next destination, the Colca Canyon.
Thanks to the location of our hotel, we were able to witness the Military parade that takes place every Sunday through the Plaza de Armas in Arequipa. Nearly every division of the army was represented and marched through while singing the Peruvian national anthem. I do h Read on...
