The plan was to leave Sunday the 18th for Judith Point, to catch the 4 pm Ferry to Block Island. We had booked a nice Bed & Breakfast on the island, Ferry reservations paid for, plans made, then work happened. Due various mishaps, not the least of which was FedEx was not exactly express, the trip had to be cancelled at the last minute. We did manage to be very lucky up with a quick backup, a trip Read on...
And the driving continues! Down to Geiranger today to take the ferry along the Geirangerfjord to Hellesylt - its one of the iconic things to do here and it lived up to the hype.
First things first, need to get there! I could have done the quick and easy route but decided to add about an hour (ok maybe more, I stopped a lot lol) to my drive by heading up through the scenic mountain pass - Gamle St Read on...
As we are heading for Andorra, Carcassonne looks like a good spot to stay on the way. Its a longish drive from Serre Chevalier, especially as we decide to detour for some sightseeing in Avignon (Ive never been there) which involved some exploration of French systems to find our way to a parking spot in the centre but it is well worth the effort.
From Avignon it is Autoroute all the way to Carcas Read on...
The train from Madrid clocked at a steady 300km/hr, turning a 3+ hour drive into an hour and ten minute ride through the torrid Spanish plains.
Walking from the station, I saw a digital bank thermometer that read 51 degrees (124 degrees Fahrenheit). But it felt like nothing close to as hot as other parts of Spain Ive visited, since it was very dry and breezy. Maybe I just prepared myself well for Read on...
Having enjoyed our rest day and another good sleep (despite it being much busier the second night with a youth group having some sort of a disco near us) we set off sharpish to get back into Burguete and on the trail. Although still an incline, the trail was much steadier for the first half, gently climbing and meandering up and down through beautiful woodland. We also began to see rocky cliff edg Read on...
Its time, Folks. Pack your bags. We gotta go. We have to go back. Back where?, you ask..back to our winter respite at Tropical Palms, of course. The chill is in the air. Autumn has arrived. The frost will soon be on the pumpkin. The bus leaves first thing in the morning. Ticket master Lulu will be there to collect your tickets and assign your seats. No crowding, please.plenty of room for everyone. Read on...
First stop for today is Gantheaume Point, which is near the southern end of the peninsula that Broome sits on. Theres a lighthouse here, but it looks more like someones plonked a large lantern on a water tank stand than the sort of lighthouses were used to seeing. The red rock formations are spectacular. There are supposed to be dinosaur footprints here, but were struggling to spot them. Maybe the Read on...
We had to cancel trips to Key West and Chautauqua because of the pandemic and we were going stir crazy. So we decided that a road trip was in order and could be done safely. We hadnt seen my son who lives in Denver in a while so that became our destination from Houston. There were many sites along the way that Ive been wanting to go to so became my plan for an itinerary.
I thought driving no more Read on...
We were up and on our way soon after 6am. Once we got out of the town, we drove sooo many miles without seeing a single place to stop for coffee. Finally, we spotted the Silver Lake Mercantile. The place was so and the owners were quite friendly. The lady had a lot of unusual decorations outside, reminding of my wife. We grabbed our coffees and continued down the numerous small roads that would ev Read on...
