A super day today weather wise and where I drove. It was supposed to rain starting around noon so I tried to do what I could in the sun the cloud cover was all over the place too. Total mix of photos haha.
I stopped in Vik to grab some food for the road - luck be had it the cruise ship was there today and was just disembarking oh, so many people. I find it interesting the giant cruise ships in these towns like what do you do? At least Flam has the railway and is close to a bunch of things but seems long to do a bunch of small ports that are relatively similar?
Anyway. The mountain pass was hella windy this morning - they closed one of the stop areas out of caution which is annoying bc that where I planned to eat my packed breakfast haha. Its fine, I stopped in one of the little turn offs instead. Same (ish) views.
I headed back towards the Flm area - idk why the cows were out in full force today, but they were all over the road in one area - much bigger
Stalheimskleiva was this really cool windy road down into the Flam valley and by this gorgeous waterfall unfortunately its temporarily closed (not sure if or when itll be fixed). I remember doing it last time, so its fine, but I wanted the pic from the top if I could get it. I took a sketch road up to Stalheim hotel idk if it was good or bad timing, maybe a little of both, but there were 4 giant tourist busses there blocking the entire parking so I just turned around and left, I had no idea how long theyd be. How is that good timing? I didnt meet the busses on my way up lol - had that happened I would have had to back up hand that would have been unfortunate lol.
Flam was a shit show..!! I was going to walk along the fjord and thought it would be less busy without the cruise ship, but I guess Im def not the only one that thought that. There was no parking whatsoever so I was like screw it - Ive seen it, Ive been here, move
I did want some pics of the water though, so I simply drove up into the village (5min or so) and wandered along the river for some shots. This river was honestly what I remember most vividly from last time just bc of the colour!
I didnt feel like risking my good driving luck and heading back up to Stegastein - also I was just waiting for the rain to start - so relatively against my better judgment (lol) I decided to drive through Lrdal Tunnel - the longest driving tunnel in the world, sigh. I was here so figured I should but MAN IT IS BORING!! I guess when its a 24.5km long tunnel, not much more to expect.
It led to a cute find though - Laerdal was a cute little town. I did a walk through and then bam, the rain and wind hit. I retreated into a little cafe for an early bday meal - smoked salmon pizza! It was delish and tons of leftover, perfect. I also got a meringue for dessert which was equally delish.
much not loving the weather, especially since the worst rain was over the mountain pass... which isnt surprising I suppose. Some sheep decided to take root in the middle of one of the curves which was a pain lol. Better than the cows this morning I suppose..!! Easier to weave between.
Anyway, back in Vangsnes I took the time to plan out the next few days (ish, depending on weather) and started to pack up. Im off to Forde area tomorrow! I also wandered down towards the ferry just for a look over the fjord - can never have enough fjord lol.
