8.00am brekkie to get the day started. Really nice full English for both of us, then straight to work. Off to Ennerdale Water and the beautiful view of the lake in the morning haze. Trek down the south side of the lake for about 4 miles, before we had to stop for Ellis to have a swim. Freezing cold water was not going to deter him - stripped down naked, put his trunks on and then took the plunge. Heaven was found - he bobbed around in the water for 30 mins getting himself nice and cool (that wasnt to last). Onwards and upwards for a further 5 miles of gently rising ground to YHA Black Sail for a lunch stop. It was during this 5 miles that the Ellis feet started to tell him something was not right. The pace slowed, but we made it all the same. Some foot repair after lunch and some encouragement on, get up and walk; weve got to get to our night stop) and then we were off again. doable thanks to the stone steps that helped us. All the way to the top without stopping!! We continued the climb, although more gentle now, to the summit for amazing views (we could actually see the Irish Sea again - maybe for the very last time, this time). Across the peak and over to the other side before starting a descent. It was now that both the feet were getting sore again and we thought we had lost our way. Not a good combo.. The sight of the quarry was amazing - we found our way again! I think we then realised we had been on the right track all along, but still a big relief. Through a bit of a strange path at the end, we found our way to YHA Borrowdale. Check in to the room (double bunk!), nice shower and then some dinner. What more could we ask for.
