We woke up this morning and ate breakfast, then headed to the port talk. Oh, my again, this is not Viking. The lady running the talk did not know anything. I asked her what time we needed to get a tender for the early excursion we had. I dont know. What time do we need to be back on the ship, I dont know. What else is there to do near the ship, there is the pancake house. The only slide was a map that you couldnt read. Useless, totally useless.
We came back to our room (deck) because the excursion we booked for today didnt start untill noon. We did yoga and stretches on the deck, of course thats the only place we all have a bit of space. Then, we grabbed a light lunch at the Cadillac diner. When we came back to our room to get ready, the rain let loose. Oh my. We packed our rain coats, hiking sticks, and in the end, we didnt need any of this and we just had to lug it around the whole time. Our guide was great. He could be a Viking guide. He was personable and knowledgeable and
we really enjoyed him. He drove us on the old highway for a bit and it was through a rain forest, jungle. We then arrived at the Akaka Falls. The Akaka Falls are over 400 feet tall. The guide took us on the PAVED trail (no need for hiking sticks and the closed toe shoes). He pointed out different types of vegetation and told us facts about each. We then hopped back on the small bus and headed to Rainbow Falls. This waterfall was shorter but had a large cave below the falls. After the falls, we headed back to Hilo and could walk the town for about 30 minutes.
We arrived back at the ship and relaxed before dinner. We showered; the water got all the way up to a very cool warm. It is still not hot water. Ever since they worked on the plumbing, the room and hall has had an unpleasant smell so now we have just cool warm water and the room smells. Sigh. The review at the end of the cruise is going to have a section written by us.
tonights show they did several songs from musicals from the 30s through the 60s. The show was well done, there were beautiful costumes and great singing and dancing.
