Wow! We do I start.... Prague has just been enchanting... such a beautiful place and the most amazing buildings you will see anywhere and such a beautiful feel about the city wherever you walk! Its such a special place because it has remained relatively unscathed from World War II bombings this was because planes didnt have the range and also because bombing targets tended to be in Germany and industrial centres. Our train trip from Budapest to Prague was pretty good, though it did run about an hour late, but the journey of approx 8 hrs was quite nice and then we stopped at a few cities along the way, Vienna, Brno and couple of other small ones and then onto Prague. We have been using Bolt Taxis and they have been great, cheaper than most and private cars. Came out of the Prague train station to be met with drug affected idiots, doesnt matter where you go they are there! Our taxi came quickly and whisked us off to our hotel right near the square on the Old Town of Prague, U Medvidku, an old working brewery dating back to 1466, as soon as we walked in, a drink a pot of beer, boy that went down real well after nearly 8 hrs on the train, gorgeous old building, with old world rooms and spotlessly clean with very modern bathrooms, loved it! Spent the first few hours exploring the Old Town Square and then took a long walk outside the tourist area to a traditional Czech Restaurant,John had the goulash but it was just served with stodgy potato and bacon dumplings, was OK but food just thrown on the plate, lots of carbs and no presentation whatsoever, walked about 2klms back to our hotel and fell into bed. Friday had breaky in the hotel and took off for the day, walked and walked everywhere, Astronomical Clock was first and then paid our entry to get up into the tower of the astronomical clock which was an amazing view, got there when it opened at 9am, then walked to the Castle on the other side of the river and had a good look around there. the castle being built in the 9th Century, the beautiful St Georges Bascilica was founded in 920, stunning! And blow me down walking up the hundreds of steps to the castle a bloke came up and said a was the acting Manager at our facility, Bruce took us totally by surprise, nice guy and we had a good chat. Then walked down the hill towards to the Vltava River, everything seems to revolve around this grand river, stopping off in a bar for a beer or two, hot day, very thirsty work! Then back to the square for dinner at Mancova Restaurace, lovely place, good wine but food just not up to standard, just seemed like it was all cooked in advance, and again no presentation anyway had our fill and walked home through the gorgeous windy, cobblestoned streets in the rain! Walked over 20klms that day so just fell into bed again. Saturday again another big walking day up to Sadys Park with a beautiful view over Prague, then down to the Lennon Wall which was set up in 1980 shortly after John Lennon was murdered, this site was crafted as a symbolic burial site of the youth of Prague, and when we visited there were hundreds of poems and messages to the people of Ukraine, quite moving! Then onto the Farmers Market along the Vltava River and walk back to our hotel and had our best meal at Beef Bar virtually across from our hotel. We feel we back to Prague at some stage for an extended period, such a stunning city! 7.30am Sunday off to the train staton bound for Berlin.
