Delighted to find that Smart Car battery had fully recharged overnight so drove it back into position behind the motorhome and hooked them back together with the Aframe. Bob has worked out a solution to the Smart Car deciding to secretly switch and leave its brake lights on if we leave it hooked up when we stop. He has to stop the motorhome and then move it forward just a couple of inches. This stops Smart car trying to snuggle up a bit closer which switches the lights on!
Back on the A26 toll road but not for long as proved by the very small toll I paid today. We rarely use toll roads but this road is good and not at all busy. In future though we will get a toll pass card as only 2rds of my window opens and the bottom has a slightly obscuring bar to hold the window blind. I am having to go
through some pretty contortions to grab the toll ticket at booth 1 and then at booth 2, put it into the slot, flash my card and press button, grab the receipt. One day I will surely fall out of the window !
Last trip I took so long grabbing my ticket it withdrew into the slot causing a minor panic until I found there was a button to press to ask politely for a second attempt.
Maybe I need longer arms as Bob can surely not get any closer to the booths. He gets the mirror within 1 inch and still I end up hanging recklessly out of the window.
This area of France is pretty flat and the fields are filled with arable crops. In this case mainly harvested so everywhere we look is pale gold. As we got further along heading South East and approaching Nancy the landscape started to change to more hills and bends. Then we started some climbs until we eventually got to the Vosges mountains, our destination for the next three nights.
excellent sanitaires. We are surrounded by pine covered peaks and there is a lake ½ mile up the road. Think most people here do so to take advantage of the sporting facilities, hiking, cycling boating etc. We certainly passed lots of cyclists on the way in and several people skiing up the road (not worked that out yet !! 😊 😊).
Rather put out to notice a sign outside reception mentioning there are some road closures so I went in to ask what that meant. Was informed that the access road to the campsite closed tomorrow 8.30 to 2pm and Sunday up to 10am. That is a bit of a downer I must say as the plan for staying here was to get into the car and drive round the area including the pretty Alsace villages which are only half an hour away. Not impressed that the campsite didnt bother to mention that the Gerdamer International Triathlon would be taking place this weekend and seriously affecting access in this way. Goodness knows what the people who had intended leaving tomorrow will think when the find the road outside is formally closed !
I left my swim for a little later as the pool looked quite busy with children earlier and managed to have it all to myself for a handy 20 lengths. Got back to the motorhome just in time as the black cloud which had been building up above us dropped itself on us.
May well be more rain tomorrow but should be better on Sunday and at least we will be able to go where we want to then, after 10am anyway 😊
PS we have a friendlly young robin who is hanging about waiting for crumbs. I always carry a pot of bird food but this robin likes Baguette. 😊
