The backstreets reveal some hidden treasures of buildings. Luckily Luxembourg didnt get dismantled too much in WW2.
Were just treading water at the moment. Tim went in to work today. No, seriously, he did, and Sue and I were left to amuse ourselves.
My most important, and task of the day was to mail a license to Switzerland, so a friend of Tims could continue to drive.
The list of handyman chores this trip is quite lean, but when the front door handle came off when I tried to open it, I thought theres never a better time than now to get to work. This building of three units also has a very heavy entry door that just had a closer fitted to it without adjusting the closing action. The old man, and this one is older than me, by a lot, living on the ground floor just about has a coronary every time the door slams.
I decided the Post Office offered me an opportunity for a couple of kilometres of early exercise , broken up by a quiet cappuccino at Babbos , on the way back. The beauty of Babbos is, apart from making a rich, smooth coffee, the waitress doesnt speak English, so therell be none of this,
Oh, youre back for another one. telltale stuff. That happened to me in Santiago when I went to buy an ice cream with the Three Amigos, my best buddies in 2018, who , with Lisa N. from Germany, marched triumphant into an empty Plaza with me on a warm day in October. No sooner had I walked through the door than the young seorita serving the cones, pulled her head out of the fridge and announced, Oh, youre back again ! Three heads just swung around and laughed at me. I was sprung. To be honest, if that shop issued Frequent Flyer points, I could have flown home business class for free.
The Postal service in is efficient and the young guy had me in and out in minutes. I just had to show three types of ID; passport , Tims local ID and my hernia scar, well almost, and hand over €46 and the deal was done. It was cappuccino time.
The next part was easy. Ive fitted heaps of these closers in the hospital I worked at, and a few around town when I worked privately, and unlike some - not you Willie -
Again, not much English, so Sue thinks I only bought an Almond Croissant to share. I suppose thats the sort of trust blind love shows. Only one croissant, seriously!
The closer in this building is German, and is called the Geze 5000 Soft Closer, not the Geze 5000 Slammer, and with a bit of tuning it is a soft closer. Im a big hit with the neighbours now.
Now we turn to the removable door handle. I refitted it, but just as a fish rots from the head down, this door sticks on the floor when closing, causing all the handle issues. That can wait until after the Grand Tour.
Well, I think Ive milked today for all its worth. There really isnt much happening. Ill post some pictures, theres a bit of footage on Instagram, and Sue and I will go into Luxembourg tomorrow and paint the town red, or beige, you be the judge.
