We landed in Langkawi on a typical tropical Malaysian day. Our hotel was very nice – open plan foyer with a large pool and drinks. Once we checked in, we decided to check out the local area. It was super sleepy during the day (like us) so after a quick walk around we went back for a rest. Langkawi, like anywhere in SE Asia, has food markets every night of the week but in different locations. That day it was a short walk from our hotel. We ventured out at dusk and to our surprise we discovered lovely a village along the way just a street back from the main beach strip. It reminded us so much of my mums home village in Thailand Ban Beautiful banana palms and wooden houses dotted around more modern concrete houses. We arrived at the markets and the smell immediately drew us in. Hot barbecuing satays, deep fried delights and rice and noodle dishes – delicious! We got a bit of everything and took it back to our hotel with some beers from and enjoyed them on our balcony. Our hotel has pumping music playing day and night so it was The next day we set out to the worlds steepest cable car and Skywalk which is one of Langkawis highlights. We got in a taxi who drove us to the Oriental Village which is at the base of the cable car station and we walked around the series of shops there and then took the 2km cable car up the Gunung Machinchang mountain range. The first stop was about ¾ if the way up and gave tremendous views over the island and nearby islands. We then went up to the top and took more photos and walked the short distance to the skywalk – the longest feee span and curved bridge in the world at 125m long. It was fantastic and what a perfect day clear, blue skies! A wonderful experience and great photos. After we descended back down to base, we got in a taxi to the Telaga Tujuh (Seven Wells) waterfall nearby and hiked a short way to the waterfalls. And we saw more cheeky monkeys! What Ive noticed in Malaysia is that the monkeys rather keep to themselves and not try to jump on tourists like in Thailand. Or perhaps its the type of monkeys. Back in Pantai Cenang (where we were staying) we had some drinks by the pool and I swam. It was so refreshing after a long hot day! Later we ventured to the beach to catch a glorious sunset on the beach and sat in the main bar on the beach to soak up the atmosphere and watched paragliders glide into the sunset. We later had dinner at another hotels rooftop bar. The next day we went island hopping! First island was Dayang Bunting Marble Geoforest park. Along the way we saw the pregnant maiden island. Again the monkeys were there to greet us at the first stop! A short walk later we were at a freshwater lake where we and the dozens of other boatloads of people were on a floating pontoon where some were swimming or doing watersports. We just sat and people watched. After we boarded the boat again, we went to see dozens of Eagles flying over the pristine waters which was a wonderful sight. Our last stop was another small island where we could swim on the beach and it was so nice and refreshing! This must be one of the ‘postcard perfect photos of Langkawi. Back in Pantai Cenang, we had a late lunch and wander around the quiet street. We went to the beach and I decided to join in the water sporting fun and went paragliding! I was ferried out on a inflatable tube with a couple and sat in a boat while the couple went up first. Then it was my turn! 10 mins of paragliding up and down the beach it was exhilarating and I got a drone video too which was the perfect moment! Bill waited for me on the beach taking photos. Afterwards, I relaxed by the pool and had another swim. That evening we went to the sunset bar again for cocktails but the sunset wasnt as intense as the day before due to cloud cover. Still a perfect end to our first Malaysian island!
