Monday I was feeling a little punk, so I took it easy in the morning then in the afternoon I took Watson for a ride in the car. Oh wow, big outing.. We went north of Taos and hooked up with rt 150 that led us into the mountains ending at the Taos Valley Ski Resort. We drove parallel to the mountains on a flat plane then the road took a shark right and to my amazement, there was a little valley. It twisted and turned following a large creek up and up, mountains on both sides. It was a both hands on the wheel kind of road so no pictures, oh maybe one. The creek was swift and sparkling and provided fly fishermen the opportunity to try their luck.
At the end of the road was a very for the resort. A chalet style lodge, and a few more modern ones all so close together there was no driving, foot traffic only. Pictures
pictue of a beaver dam I spotted on the way up. The little critters were really busy and did too good a job on their dam, it was overflowing. So there were new sticks in the overflow section, but they had more work to do.
The next day I felt much better. Could be because it was cloudy and the temperature was only 68 degrees. Watson and I went for a nice long walk on a side street with a bike lane. No more walking on stones for this little guy. After breakfast and a short rest we piled in the car and went to the Rio Grande Gorge Bridge. It was only 9:30 so most of the tourists hadnt arrived yet and it was still cloudy, so still fairly cool. We walked the rim trail that led to an overview of the bridge and the scary part was that there was no fence along the edge, just 600 ft straight down. The gorge was formed by an earthquake, then the river just followed its crack.
too hot I may go back. I did not walk on the bridge, it just scared me but maybe if I go again Ill muster the courage.
Leaving Watson behind I went to the Plaza to see if I could find some nice Southwest clothing, casual stuff, a little better than a T shirt. Atires offered me a 20 % discount because I took the trolley tour so in I went. A Mask is required everywhere here and they even had some fashion ones for sale for only $20.00. The owner was SO helpful, glad for a customer, that she showed me everything in the store and then some. She was really sweet and I ended up buying several items suitable for a casual evening out or a stroll to the ice cream store. Mix and match and pack able.
