I finally went to my first visit for my new knee. It went just fine. They my knee with its new device inside of it. Snappy...huh? The little, dark, oval piece you can see close to the artificial knee is my original kneecap (patella). I thought they would replace that but no....only if it had been highly diseased....mine was good....they did shave off the backside of it and put a button in the center. Hope I dont lose my button! Button, Button..wheres the button? The pretty blue device is an example of what is inside my knee. The blue represents my bone. Our son, Tim, said it looks like a Haha. If I could kneel, maybe I could suck up the grime on our floor. Ive been instructed to not kneel again....might break the pins/prongs in it. Eeek! I promise.....I wont kneel. I couldnt skip before and now I cant kneel. Such is life. They gave me a new shirt to wear...I love it! The woman holding it is my Physician Assistant, Christa. The man is the technician. He is super nice. I was prepared to have my
stitches (zip ties) removed. It took 2 Tylenol before this visit. I thought Christa would cut each end of each tie and yank them through my Nope! This was unbelievable. She simply unrolled the clear bandage straight down the incision and all the zip ties came along with it! Unreal and best of all: No Pain! Hallelujah! I did a real close up shot of these zip ties so you could see they were actually imbedded into the incision. The dark spots on my incision are dried blood (scabs). Christa put over the incision and said they would eventually fall off during showers, etc. I go back here on Dec 23rd for another check up. They will my right knee and see what needs to be done with that. Through all this, it actually seems better with minimal pain. Well see. If it needs surgery, Im game.
Ive posted a photo of me wearing my new shirt along with Dr. Johnson who did my surgery. Note how easy on your eyes he is! Of course, I only see him with a mask on.
is located inside the Celebration Hospital. That visit was the easiest because it was a lot of Q&A and assessment of my ROM, etc. Our good friend, Art (my knee surgery cheerleader), Miranda for my physical therapist. Cory arranged for that to happen. She is as great as Art said. She has a student working with her right now, Kwoh, but after a couple visits.....he has moved on. He was super nice and very good....he will do well in his future.
As I will confess and you can obviously see, I am, and never have been, an athletic buff....far from it. When my following appointments took me into the big exercise room, I was awestruck. What do all machines do? So far, so good. I warm up on a pedal like machine...not up and down...more a back and forth motion. Remember how bicycle man just about killed my hip? This machine moves my arms, too....praying it will shrink my bat wings! They measure my ROM of my knee. I have gone beyond the norm with bending my knee back. I am only 3 degrees from being able to have the back of my knee touch the
table Im on. They are impressed with my progress. So am I! Some machines/workout equipment I like better than others. At the end of each session, they ice my knee. I like that! First time they took the big, leg pillow away and I went to sit up, unladylike, I let a big toot. What can you say except sorry and move on. Of course, they all know me now. I have 1 hour sessions twice a week all the way through December. Going from a coach potato to a gymnast is quite a life change for me.
Cory is far more active than me. He takes a daily walk. Sometimes to the grocery store, Publix, or up through Old Town. He took some photos for me to see some of the new additions up there. Its looking good. They opened a Shoneys restaurant that we went to. That was very nice and a good addition to the area.
Our foursome of Sam & Sandy and us took a golf cart ride up to Old Town to see some of these new sites. Cory went through the drive through at Burger King so we could get lunch.
