On the road again this time to another site near Rouen. We are making our way back home and cannot decide whether to get the ferry or the tunnel let alone what time we are going to cross. The journey to this campsite was a bit different as we needed to get a ferry across to Jumieges where our next site is and then found out that the height limit was 3 metres. Well our rig is 2.89 metres and then a little bit more for the and solar panel so not sure we would meet the 3 metre limit. Anyway this decision was taken away from us as the ferry had broken down. So now we had quite a bit of a detour to go over by the bridge. Well this bridge was so high you could see down at the top - I just panicked and thought can I really do this even with the biggest girls knickers on and a pair of skies!!!! - that was the question? Anyway, magically the motorhome went over the bridge without me driving!!!!! Now I can add magic to my CV. of Jumieges and it has an amazing abbey. It is supposed to be one of the most famous abbeys in Normandy and was founded in the 7th century. Can you believe it was then transformed into a stone quarry after the French Revolution. The abbey is called the most beautiful ruin in France - so now you know. We took the bus into Rouen, only 1.70 euros pp each way for 20 miles or so, which was really great for me being driven instead of having to do all the driving. The bus was a real positive as it let me also see the countryside a bit better. When we got to Rouen we found the Cathedral which again was amazing - what is happening to me I seem now to gravitate to Cathedrals. One thing the French can do is build amazing Cathedrals. We then took the Le Petit Train around Rouen as we were there for only a day. I think I should get shares in the French Le Petit Trains as wherever we seem to go we seem to get one around the town. To be honest I think they are great as they are like the Big Red Bus (but can go down such narrow streets) which goes around large cities and you can see things you would probably not have seen on your own and then you can go back and revisit places you saw. Wanted to have a good meal there but it seems restaurants in France dont like opening in the afternoon so back to the campsite for another Motorhome meal. So today we have travelled to Abbeyville which is not far from Calais for tomorrow. We have found a nice site in Abbeyville which has lots of brits on due to the proximity to the tunnel and ferry ports. So now you know, we have booked our crossing - Calais to Dover ferry tomorrow morning, decision made! So its nearly the end of my driving in France, only one more day to get to the port. So what are my thoughts on driving in France. You seem to be driving on roads that are so high you are driving at the height of tree tops. Every road seems to have deer crossing as there are so many signs of beware of the deer. Driving on the wrong side of the road in a UK vehicle is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. There are a lot of toll roads in France but not as expensive as I had been led to believe and mostly with light traffic. Goose (Mike) is getting better at navigating. Once at Dover, Goose retires and Mike takes over the driving.
