Took advantage of the free travel for Seniors on the light rail & buses. About a 1km walk to the closest station. The light rail network is only 12 months old & further expansion is planned. Buses are what they call rapid services & everything runs on time or close to it.
The light rail trip to the CBD is around mins. We then took the bus to the Woden Westfield south of the CBD. It is strange how pricing differs between the same retailers & we found more bargains here than at the Belconnen Westfield. $20 New Balance runners were an absolute bargain, along with some cheap good quality clothing. Also Westfield gave us a free gift for spending over $50. It may only be a LOccitane soap pack, but nonetheless it is a bonus.
to PJs Hotel for lunch. A 350g rump steak with dianne sauce & carbonara penne pasta were washed down with a well earned drink. We then strolled through the CBD shops, finding our specials bought earlier in the day were much dearer in the city.
Took the light rail back to the racecourse, then walked 1km back to the caravan park. Very tired after lots of walking & certainly had no trouble sleeping!
With a lot of attractions limited or having their tours closed due to Covid, we were frustrated by the limitations with the attractions & tours we wanted to do.
It is strange that Dubbo & Bathurst attractions/tours were all open, albeit group numbers were smaller while Canberra just has closed things altogether.
With the Deep Space Centre closed & the Australian Institute of Sport closing all tours, our picks were severely limited as on the last visit of Canberra we did most other attractions & do not need to see them again. Imagine our surprise to find out that the visiting Rotary Club staying in the caravan park got both the
Deep Space Centre & AIS allow them in for tours. Certainly unimpressed with these facilities for picking & choosing who to let in & will not be either of them to anyone & will review them in no uncertain terms.
Caught the light rail to the Bent Spoke Brewery in the CBD & sampled their beers. Hopped, or maybe staggered, back onto the light rail to go to Gungahlin for lunch at the Canberra Raiders Club. Good cheap lunches included a 250g rump steak & fish & chipd, followed by chocolate mousse & lemon meringue. Had a snooze on the light rail back to the racecourse then back to the van.
Went to the National Dinosaur Museum in Nicholls about 15mins drive from the caravan park. Absolutely stunning displays with a plethora of information of the differing ages of the planet & evolution of Dinosaurs. See the photos as there is far too much information to remember!
the van to update the blog again & start packing the van up as we will be out early tomorrow to travel back into Victoria to Myrtleford.
