High winds kept us from snorkeling on the reefs today ☹ - they canceled us. But we enjoyed time at the quarry, which is where much of the coral foundation for the overseas highway came from. The center is deep – 40+ but the edges have rocks around in which little fish can hide. We also saw some fair sized parrotfish. We met some people who had just arrived to the area, only to find that they will probably not get any snorkeling in. So we are very fortunate again. The setting was gorgeous, as you can see, very protected. A good place to practice snorkeling and enjoy a few minutes on my
Something interesting - over 700 runners were passing through – all the way from Key Largo to Key West. We chatted with some – they were doing it in a relay fashion. Some were raising $ for cancer support. Others just for the joy of running. Ugh.
After an amazing dinner of grouper (we purchased a pound yesterday when we couldnt find either hogfish or more of that amazing triple tail) we took a stroll around our neighborhood, imagining what it would be like
to live here. Many of the houses in this 1.5 blocks wide strip of neighborhood in between 2 channels are small, but some are expanding, and some are new. Most have boat docks. Cant imagine the price. Our landlords told us that Hurricane Irma came up 3 in this place so they had to replace most tile and all electricals.
While hanging out at the bridge 2 houses down, we saw a fisherman catching a tarpon, so we went over to chat. They were bright red and said the sea had been very choppy indeed. As we chatted, a mama manatee and her calf visited – evidently they dont just eat lettuce – they were enjoying the fish guts etc the cleaners were tossing out.
