After biking 492 miles across Washington (minus 2 days), the panhandle of Idaho and two days into Montana, I have decided that my body has had enough. It has been a great experience to view this beautiful country while riding my bike. Todays weather forecast was for showers and temperatures in the upper 40s and well lets face itI just do not like to be cold. So we watched Barry and Phil head out this morning from Eureka, Montana to West Glacier then Kevin and I headed out for West Glacier, Montana. It was a beautiful drive and probably could have seen more if it had not been raining off and on. We stopped in the wonderful town of Whitefish, MT and had a late breakfast. This town was so cute with lots of little shops and places to eat. Our waiter was very helpful with facts about Glacier National Park. On our way to West Glacier we stopped off at Hungry Horse Dam. This dam is 564 ft tall, 2,115 ft wide and was finished in July of 1953. This is the 10th highest concrete dam in the United States of America. The Hungry Horse Reservoir is 34 miles long and has a road around it 115 miles long. We drove several miles of this road after we crossed the dam and the scenery was absolutely spectacular! We could see the mountains of Glacier NP towering around the reservoir and they were all snow covered. These mountains range in heights of 7800 feet to 8700 feet. The twisty turning road along side of the water offered fantastic photo ops and breathtaking views. There are National Forest campgrounds all along the 115 miles and each one would be a glorious spot to camp. We did stop at Glacier to get our touristy picture in front of the sign. They started a new rearranged ticket fee to drive your auto in Glacier. You cannot go very far on Going to the Sun Road since the road is not fully opened yet, however you have to pay the regular $30 to get into the park and then another fee for the auto for each day. Margaret got a pass for tomorrow so all 6 of us will ride in one car. Tomorrow is a rest day for Barry and Phil and we all will do some sightseeing. Sunday they will head on east
