My next camp location was in the Carson National Forest in New Mexico. I do not like driving the USA Interstate Highways, so I drove North Of Flagstaff, Arizona to US Hwy 160 in the Navajo Nation. This is an unique area with interesting rock formations, and Native American ruins and rock art. (Maybe next summer I will contact the Navajo Nation to get information about the areas open to the public, and obtaining Navajo entry permits.)
I continued driving North East through Kayenta, and points East. After a while I entered the Navajo Volcanic Field (about 30 million years old) that extends South and East to the famous Shiprock (volcanic plug) in New Mexico. (Sorry, no pics.)
Still on US Hwy 160 I crossed into Colorado (near the Four Corners Geologic marker) in the Ute Nation. I left the Ute Nation then on to Cortez, Colorado where I got fuel and supplies. It was after sunset when I drove East on US Hwy 160 to Durango Colorado. I felt spent, and I was starting to a driving hazard, so I took the first San Juan National Forest road and made an emergency camp at a nice forested
