Today we had to return the car, pack up the tent and stuff and move to a chalet for the final night. I had a few of the items we had bought such as the self inflating mattress, camp chairs and tarp up on marketplace and we sold a couple of the items, which was a bonus and donated the rest to people at the campgrounds. The Exmouth Ningaloo Caravan and Holiday Park had let us in the chalet early, so this was so appreciative, it meant we didnt have to store stuff in their reception area and could move it with the car before it was dropped off.
Taking the car to look around the beaches of Exmouth, pick up a couple of pies for lunch (a reef and beef pie, which was full of fresh prawns, scallops and chunky bit of meat, I do stopping at Ningaloo Bakehouse and Cafe for a pie at this bakery) we returned the car and we met with a emu, just wandering by, not bothered by us being so close to it.
and played American Country music. We stopped for a beer watched a bit of the Port Power game on their big screen TVs before headed back to our chalet, warming up our pies, watching another Emu wander through the campsite and steal food before Kym headed back to the pub to watch the rest of the game and I headed to the pool to relax for a while and swim in my mermaid tail.
The pool was lovely and refreshing having a 2.8 metre deep area, which I enjoyed as most of the kids kept to the shallow waters, although, seeing a mermaid they wanted to ask me all manner of questions and ask me to do somersaults and tricks.
Kym sat by the pool playing his ukulele for a while after the game. Tonight we headed out for dinner and beer to the other local brewery, Whalebone Brewing Company. A flight paddle of 7 beers, decent sizes will set you back by $30, but they were good beers and we enjoyed pizza and nachos and shared a bubblegum cider listening to the acoustic act. A great way to finish our holiday.
A few tips: there is no Vodafone range for most of the western coast, and often no Optus (and sometimes no range at all). Buy a Telstra SIM if you dont already have a Telstra phone.
Book well in advance. We had a heads up 4 months ago to book and booked as soon as we knew and struggled to find School holidays are BUSY!
Same goes for any tours, dont leave it until the last minute. They do sell out (you can go on a waiting list).
If you plan to do a short trip as far as how much time you are going for, hiring a car one way is expensive. If you have the time, driving up and back is a great way to see so much.
Western Australia are REALLY behind in recycling. They have just started offering 10 cent back on cans (I didnt see anything for bottles). There are no recycling or organic waste places, so they take EVERYTHING to the tip. If you are trying to be environmentally friendly, this is not an
The weather was a bit all over the place, there were days I needed my big warm jacket, days it rained (we needed to buy rain ponchos) and warm days. The nights were often chilly too. Be prepared for wind, cold, rain and hot weather.
The Learmoth Airport is tiny, has one small overpriced vending machine with small servings of nothing nutritious and a coffee machine (which was out of order). There is NOTHING nearby or to do if your flight gets delayed. Ours was delayed 3 times, and we spent over 5 hours here with no decent food. Bring stuff, just in case...
