Again, I apologize for being late in posting this, but this KOAs internet was up most of the time, but had extremely limited bandwidth last night.
We left the Spokane KOA just before 8am, with no plans to stop anywhere along the way, except for lunch and gas, since the trip was over 6 and 1/2 hours. When we got to the Columbia River canyon, and saw they had an overlook, we couldnt resist. Such awesome views of the canyon, river, and the Ginkgo Petrified Forest on the other side. After stopping for some photos, we crossed the bridge over the river and continued on. The Google Map app had selected the best route to the Olympic KOA, having us go south of Seattle and just north of then up the Olympic Peninsula. I guess it was the shortest route timewise, but it seemed to take forever to get to the peninsula. Along the way, shortly before noon, we decided to get off Ellensburg to find a place to eat. Soon after exiting, we spotted a Taco del Mar, and stopped there. After I ate a couple of very good fish tacos and Manoli had a taco
After what seemed like forever, with some nice scenery, but many miles along the outskirts of Seattle and we pulled into the Olympic Peninsula/Port Angeles KOA just after 3:30pm. We quickly checked in and found our cabin, noting how cold and windy it was. Thankfully, the cabin has a nice new heater, which although at first didnt seem like it would help much, we actually had to turn it down later in the evening. After unpacking, we checked out the surrounding area, first for places to see tomorrow, and secondly for a WalMart, and a good place to eat dinner. We found a WalMart just down the road in Port Angeles, and also a Dollar Tree store where I hoped to find my canned coffee. Sure enough, they had my coffee, and we picked up a couple of other things, then headed to WalMart. There, we bought some fruit and a of Dr. Thunder. Afterwards, we got back on the highway, looking for someplace to eat in Port Angeles. After seeing nothing special for a while, we spotted
a Safeway grocery store. We hadnt been in one for years, since we left Florida, but figured they might have some good food for a light dinner. They had both a Chinese counter with some interesting looking food, and a variety of chicken dinners. We ended up getting chicken fingers with jojo fries and coleslaw, planning on getting just one dinner, since Manoli wasnt hungry, but the lady behind the counter must have assumed we wanted one for each of us. Oh well, they were only 6 bucks each.
We left the Safeway and headed towards the harbor area of Port Angeles so Manoli could take some photos while we ate dinner. We ate most of our two meals, took some photos, and wandered around a bit. They had a ferry there, but it had been closed for quite a while, due to After some photos and a nice walk, we returned to the KOA to make plans for tomorrow and to write this blog.
Tomorrow I think we are going to make the 94 mile, 2 1/2 hour drive to the Hoh Rain Forest in the Olympic National Park. We may not get to do much
