August 2020, Corona: Code Yellow and few tourists in Denmark. It was a warm summer, too warm for the Danish. We travelled by car from Holland mainly through rural areas to avoid crowds. The pleasant summer sunny days added special colours to Denmark. Searching for Denmark historic Viking past we visited: JELLING: Rune Stones erected in the 10th century by King Gorm the Old and his son Harald Bluetooth; LINDHOLM HOJE in Aalborg: Viking burial ground from the Iron Age and Viking Age placed in an oval outline of a viking ship; LADBY: only known Viking- ship grave grave in Denmark; TRELLEBORG: circular Viking fortress and a wooden longhouse reconstruction & ROSKILDE: five original ships discovered at the bottom of Roskilde Fjord. In the North of the island of Zealand and only 10 km by boat from Sweden lies the city of Helsingor and there we visited KROMBORG SLOT, a 15th century Danish castle that was the setting for Shakespeare Hamlet (1602).
