It was purely coincidental that the weekend we were passing through Roxby just happened to coincide with Fathers Day a coincidence that turned out to be a lovely relaxing celebration of a and his son and love and respect for each other. It was the time spent creating and concocting the things they know Greg loves and activities shared that truly show the loving relationship they share.
We arrived Friday and spent over 30mins trying to parallel park the van in the bay opposite their house. Just an extra ½ metre of length would have made it so much easier. The bay was also not overly wide and being just around a corner was crucial that nothing stuck out too far into the road. The rear of the caravan would stick out so try again. Then the front of the 4x4 hung out too much try again. Then the middle of everything hung out, and so it went on. Eventually after much toing and froing we decided that was it! Do any more and wed probably just go backwards. Normally, as we did last time, we would have parked the van in the caravan
It was really nice to be able to sleep a few nights in a full size bed, to wash our mounting dirty lothes pile and to vacuum and clear most of the bull dust from the caravan. Thank you so much Z for the loan of your washing machine and vacuum cleaner.
Saturday afternoon shared nibbles while playing Azul, a tile matching board game. In the evening we went to The Tavern for dinner. Not bad food. We both really enjoyed our lamb shank and mashed potato with gremolata.
Sunday morning T made us all smoked salmon and cream cheese bagels for breakfast and of course each of us a brewed coffee of choice.
They had told us about the Arid Recovery Open Day and asked if we were interested in going. This sounded right up our alley so we tootled off at about 3pm with instructions to be home by 6.30pm for canapes.
We borrowed their car as we had left ours connected to the caravan. You write it off, you own it, was the departing statement.
drove into the Arid Recovery property, one of the officials came over to us to ask if we were aware we had a spotlight hanging down. Really! Yes really. We were a bit horrified but not too worried as we knew the other one was already missing. Some kangaroo interaction a long time ago.
Crostini with smoked salmon, goats cheese and dill, another with thinly sliced roast beef with horse radish cream and then red pear slices and soft blue cheese wrapped in prosciutto. We really enjoyed these with a glass of bubbly tempranillo from Rutherglen.
Melt in your mouth pan fried and butter basted scotch fillet with an intense mushroom gravy, with fondant potatoes and steamed broccolini and asparagus was cheffed by T. Served with a Bailey of Glenrowan Petit Syrah. Again, to die for.
