I did not plan much for the last day and I should have. Our flight was not until 4:15, but I didnt really know what else to do. We slept in a bit, then checked out and stored our luggage. The only real thing on the schedule was breakfast at Hudson Caf, a Detroit breakfast institution. It was close so we walked. The weather has been just fantastic, cool in the mornings, low humidity, and a nice breeze most of the day. The only rain was the thunderstorm our first night here. We had the foresight to make a reservation, without one the wait was over an hour long. The place is small, but they pack them in. No Covid distancing here. We got a table in the back by the kitchen, which was fun because we saw all the out and the pancakes looked fantastic, we of course did not order them. The menu was the freaking QR code, so I had to work to read the menu on my iPhone, and the menu is pretty long. Six or more different types of pancakes, French toast, and waffles. Then there is the benedicts, omelets, and skillets. Jerry went with the Huevos Rancheros and I did the Voodoo Benedict, basically an eggs benedict with ranchero sauce. The rancheros sauce was very spice, and instead of English muffins it was over corn bread. This was a stick to your rib breakfast. Mine also came with a side of cheesy grits, which were not cheesy or even hot. It was definitely a Detroit experience that everyone should have. After that we just sat in the hotel lobby until it was time to go. Security at the airport was pretty easy, no line for TSA and the United counter for check in took less than 90 seconds. The plane again was small and even in first class there was zero amenities, just a bottle of water. How am I supposed to survive a small plane with out gin? The flight was a quick 48 minutes to OHare, the walk to the gate to get to Providence was almost as long as our flight to Chicago. The gate area in OHare was really crowded, to crowded for the Covid world we live in. The good news is that 98% of the people wore their masks and wore them correctly. The flight home was one of the best domestic flights in a long time. Just a snack box, but the gin The flight attendant must be new on the job, because she was overly friendly and just one of the best flight attendants on a flight. We got back to Providence around 9:15, getting our bags was a breeze, and yes, they made it home with us. That wraps up this quick little get away. My overall impression of Detroit is favorable, food needs some work and the city in general need a lot of help to get back to its boom days. They are certainly trying; several new apartments being built in old buildings to encourage a move back to the city. That will only happen if they get a grocery store downtown. Jerry would like to go again, and I would go just for the Motown Museum, but there are so many places yet to see in the next 6 years. Once we retire its off to Europe and it is highly unlikely there will be many if any trips back to the U.S.
