Breakfast, family time, Anniversary dinner. That was the day. Other than the interruption from work that stressed me out for most of the day, we had a good day.
We slept in a little then had breakfast at Cecilias famous for their red chili sauce. We walked to breakfast in the brisk morning air, actually wore my new winter coat as it was 27 degrees. We were the only customers in the place until the very end of our breakfast. They did a huge take out/delivery business. The place is not fancy but the food is solid and very traditional New Mexican.
We both had Huevos Rancheros the only difference was mine was with carne adovada and Jerrys with shredded beef, onions and tomatoes. They were the best I have every had and the red chili sauce is outstanding. The server/owner was very surly, swore like a truck driver when on the phone with other family members. She was very nice and explained here chili sauce making process. She personally goes to Hatch where they pick the red chilis specifically for her. When she gets back, she does not roast them but lets them dry in the sun. The
After breakfast we drove to Jerrys Uncle TJs house and spent the rest of the day there visiting and going through a big red trunk full of family photos. It was a good day for Jerry since he got to catch up with family from his dads side and talk about family history.
We left at 4 to head back to the hotel, with a brief stop at Trader Joes to get some medicine (and I mean red wine).
Today is our double anniversary, we have been together for 19 and legally married 4 years. So, we had a nice dinner at Antiquity (totally not southwestern, well a bit). I first had to deal with some work issues which did not do much for my mood. The original plan was to have a glass of champagne in the hotel bar then take a cab to dinner. Best laid plans, the bar was very crowded and the bartender and servers rude and ignored us. Instead, we just went back up to the room had some wine and waited for
our cab. When the cab arrived, it smelled of cat pee and vomit, not very appetizing when on your way to dinner. Needless to say, by the time we got to the restaurant we were not in a great mood. That soon changed as the restaurant did not disappoint, a bit of a snafu with seating but all turned out create. The food was very good. I am going to do this in an old method of prior blogs.
The entres were served with your choice of soup or salad. I had the salad with a very nice oil based blue cheese dressing and Jerry had the Chicken Posole (more a cross between chicken tortilla soup and posole).
Unlike normally, we both had the same entre, Henry IV, a perfectly cooked medium rare bacon wrapped filet topped with an artichoke hear served inside a whole artichoke with barnaise sauce. Served with really fresh sauted vegetables and green chili mashed potatoes. The entre was easily the dish of the day.
I finally broke down and downloaded the Lyft app. It turned out to be cheaper than a cab and the care much cleaner. Now back in the room, giving Tarragon some love and getting ready to get some sleep. Tomorrow is more family time but with some sightseeing as well.
